"Thank you for doing the show after the game, Le."
"Not a problem, Vanessa. Glad to do it."
"I did not ask you during the interview, but do you think they'll extend your player contract once Blackburn gets off the DL?"
Le flicked his hands "I am not looking to replace anyone on the team. This is my team too. I'm a coach here."
"A coach that just proved he knew how to do what he tells players on the team to do. I was watching you. Your batting mechanics are excellent. I have been watching you for a while now too. Ever since you showed up sitting in the stands and designing your programs. You started off this gangly kid that seemed to not fit into his body. Not you are out there looking smooth and like you have been swinging that bat for years." Vanessa sounded a little awestruck.
"Well, that's fair. I did not know you were watching me, but it's all true enough. After I got out of the hospital I grew a little over six inches in a year. My bones and muscles always hurt. Now I seem to have stopped, and it gave me time to catch back up to my body. Stephanie worked with me every day in the gym and on the field and we ... helped me move in. I guess is how I would put that."
Vanessa looked around and made sure no one was close. "Stephanie said you two are not dating."
"We aren't." Le replied simply.
"So, who are you seeing? Stephanie says you are into women."
"In theory." Le said.
"What do you mean in theory? You are a coach on a team hat went to the world series last year. A player this yet. You must have all sorts of opportunities to date." Vanessa sounded a little offended that Le was not taking advantage of his position.
"Stephanie talks about how hard it is to date. Finding the right person, not attracted to her because of her fame and money. I get that. A little. I'm not famous like her..."
Vanessa interrupted "You will be now. Walk off homerun like that? Your first run was the winning run! Your very first at-bat. Your very first swing. The papers are going to be full of that tomorrow!"
"Yes. Well. I don't; know how to date."
Vanessa's voice went up half an octave. "What?"
"I have never dated. True story."
"So: When you say you like women? That's like what. Theory?"
"I guess so. Said it exactly like that." Le agreed.
Vanessa rubbed at her forehead, and again looked around "You are a virgin."
"I suppose. Yes. I mean to the degree that guys can be. I don't have a hymen to break or anything. Right?"
"You know enough about women to know about hymens but you have never had sex with a woman."
"No."
"Kissed one?"
"On the cheek. Sure."
"But not open mouth, full on passion." Vanessa clarified.
"No heavy petting. Nothing like that."
"No."
Vanessa stood up. Held out her hand "Come on. My husband will just have to understand."
"What?"
"We'll go get a room, and I will teach you about all the bases. If you want to."
Le took her hand slightly tentatively "Are you sure? I mean... your husband?"
"My husband will either understand or I'll bring up all the times he cheated on me."
"Why would he cheat on you?" Le asked, confused.
"And now you are being sweet. Let's go."
