Brooke drove back the same route Adam brought her earlier in the day. She knew what street he lived on but not the house number. She knew what his house looked like so she wasn't worried about finding it again.
Her mind raced as she weaved through traffic. Maybe she should have called first. She could have used Sav's phone since she had his number but after reading that note, all she could think was about getting back to him as quickly as possible to apologize.
She had to think about what she was going to say to him.
"Adam, I'm such a dumb bitch, please forgive me and fuck me into oblivion." She said out loud in the car. She giggled to herself. Ok, obviously that wasn't what she was going to say but that would be the most concise way to say what she was feeling.
But seriously, what was she going to say to him? She'd just let the words come naturally instead of trying to plan it. She'd know what to say when she saw him. Brooke looked at the clock in the car. It was already 8:45, she wondered if he was even home-- it was a Saturday night after all.
She exited the freeway, and drove 3 blocks to the street he lived on. Brooke turned onto the street and slowed down looking at the houses. She finally saw his near the end of the block. She parked the car on the street and got out. He had a fence around his property and a gate blocking the entrance to the driveway.
There was a small door next to the gate that looked to be a way for people to enter and exit on foot without having to use the driveway. She noticed the door was ajar as she approached. She saw the intercom system there as well, should she use that or just go through the door since it was open? She decided to go through the open door.
Everything looked quiet as she walked up the path to his front porch. She was halfway there when she saw a light on in the garage and heard some noises, she slowed down to investigate.
She peered around the corner of the garage door to see Adam moving some boxes to the back corner. There was a somewhat large dog, laying in the center of the garage licking itself.
'He has a dog?' She thought. She didn't see a dog last night or this morning. Just as she was about to make her presence known, the dog saw her and got to its feet, barking wildly and coming straight for her.Brooke screamed and started to retreat. Adam swung around and immediately yelled at his dog to stop.
"MOLLY. NO. COME." he bellowed at her.
The dog immediately stopped her pursuit of Brooke and returned to Adam's side. By this time, he had come to the front of the garage and Brooke was well into the driveway after backing up rapidly in fear of the dog.
Adam looked at her, she could see he was surprised to see her.
"How did you get in here?" He wondered looking down the driveway toward the gate.
"The little door was open" she motioned toward the general direction. "So I just thought I would knock on your door. But here you are." Brooke said nervously.
Adam nodded his head, "Oh, I must have left it open when I brought Molly back from our walk."
"You have a dog?" she asked, confused.
"Yeah, this is Molly. She was overnight at the Vet last night because she ate 3 whole packs of gum and she got sick. The vet had to pump her stomach and get it out and said she'd be fine but he wanted to keep her overnight for observation. I picked her up after I dropped you off"
Molly looked up at Adam hearing her name. Brooke started to walk toward him and Molly took a step forward ready to guard her man from this intruder.
"Molly, it's ok girl. This is Brooke. She's our friend." he said to her softly, giving her a quick rub on her back. He motioned for Brooke to come closer to them. Brooke walked slowly toward them. Adam was petting Molly to soothe her and Brooke reached down and rubbed her on the ears.
