I mainly rip this ship, but I can deal with it in fanfics with while they were younger, and before the mudblood incident in their fifth year.

I absolutely adore Jily, but I feel like while they were younger, Snily could have been a bit of an opposites attract, dark to light, only-nice-to-you, pessimist x optimist kinda trope.

Snape could've tried to become a better person and reject his darkness and awful past with Lily's kindness and good morals.

However, at the same time, I don't at all condone the way that Snape treated Lily.

In many fanfics I see that he emotionally manipulates her into staying, calls her slurs, and even touches her inappropriately or plays as a bystander to others or death eaters doing so.

And that is horrible.

So, overall, I'm afraid that Snape just made too many wrong choices to redeem himself for Lily.

Like, honestly, I still cringe about the mudblood incident.

That was so uncalled for. She was helping him, for crying out loud! Standing up for him!

And he called her a slur in front of her, her friends, her love interest, and his bully. Not only incredibly rude, but extremely, extremely unintelligent.

 And while he was making all these dumb decisions and joining the dark lord, there James was, making the right ones, which obviously attract do-gooder Lily immensely.

Still, in most he cries about his plight and becomes such an espresso depresso at the horrible injustices he faces and how much he adores Lily and how she doesn't deserve James.

By halfway through, most of the readers are done with him and just hate on him in the comment section, which he honestly deserves in most cases.
