"She wasn't here fore verry long" Rathnik said, maybe six months or so. When she was here, she was quite a rebel. She almost started a revolution"
Rathnik laughed dryly saying "she got zapped so many times, it's like she didn't even feel it. When she left, this pplace was changed."
Ria felt a pit open up in her stomach. She missed Lyza so much. A guard stomped over to the group and kicked at Rathnic with his boot. "You four, get to work." He said gruffly.
Ria put her hands on her hips saying "why should I"
The guard laughed and brought out his wand, pointing it menacingly at ria. Rathnik made a motion for Ria to stop but she paid no heed. Crin and Dulan just looked at the ground as if they had seen all of this a thousand times. Ria kept standing, defiantly staring at the guard as if daring him to do something. With a casual flick of the rist, the guard shot a red spark out of his wand at ria. it hit her squarely in the chest. For a second, she didn't feel anything, then the pain hit her. It felt like every nerve was on fire, like a thousand angry fire and's were crawling all threw her. Ria fell to the ground writhing in pain. It hurt so much she couldn't even scream. She just lay there on the durt, a look of agony on her face. The guard looked down at her, a wicked smile contorting his lips. After a few seconds that felt like an eternity, the pain faded away, leaving Ria week and out of breath. The guard kicked her and she curled into a ball on the ground. "Get to work" he growled before stomping away. Ria stood up shakily. "It's always rough the first time" Rathnic said offering a hand to Ria.
Ria took it gratefully stbrushing herself off and resuming her gardening. Untill now, none of this had felt real. The whole thing was like a nightmare that she would eventually wake up from. Now though, It felt all to real. The sunlight that had comforted Ria mere minutes before felt glaring, like a big yellow eye watching her scornfully from above. "We have to get out of here" said Ria franticly looking around the garden.
Rathnik only shook his head. "There's no way out" he sighed, "we have all tried."
"There has to be a way" Ria said franticly turning to Crin and Dulan.
The two boys shook there heads in unison "the doors are all sealed with magic" said crin, "and there is a 20 foot fence around the perimeter covered in barbed wire andd topped with spikes.
Dulin's face went dark as he said, "remember Goyath, he tried to make it over the fence and got impaled on the spikes."
There was a moment of short silents before Ria spoke up saying, "whaat about the wands? I saw a guard open a door with one. Could we steel it and gget out that way?"
Rathnik shook his head saying "you wouldn't be able to get it from them. The wands zap anyone who tries to use them that isn't a guard. Trust me, you don't want that to happen. It's worse than getting zapped by a spark. Ria thaught for a while. She needed to get out of this place. She wanted so much to find Lyza and get back to her home in the sprawling city of lorian. "Look" she said defiantly, "I don't know how, but I'm getting out of this place, whatever it takes."
