Part 2

Clyde and I sit on the back porch as he finishes his late breakfast Jocelyn made for him. I look at the time and see that it's half past noon. Milo sent me a text early this morning saying he was going to be here by twelve. I begin to feel regret for having him meet Clyde. I then pick up my phone and Clyde jumps up and runs down the driveway.

"Hey! Little man!" I grab my purse and run after him, making sure he doesn't cross the street. I then see that Clyde was running to Milo. I try to catch my breath as I look at Milo who is smiling at me.

"What?" my breath heaves.

"You should really lay off those cigarettes."

I pull my hand up and flip him off as he laughs, making sure Clyde wasn't witnessing this. He shakes his head and picks Clyde up.

"Hey, little guy, ready to go to the park?"

"Yeah!" Clyde shouts.

"There's a park that's a few blocks from here, we can go there," I slug my bag over my shoulder.

"Alright."

"I'm just going to let Jocelyn know we're leaving," I walk back to the back porch and tap on the window that's revealing the kitchen. Jocelyn is washing dishes as she walks over, and opens the window.

"What?"

"We're leaving now."

"Haze, I'm not sure about this," she sighs.

"I'm just being fair," I shrug.

"I know, and that's what I hate about you sometimes," she grumbles.

"Mom?"

"Listen, just be careful, and be sure to have Clyde not get his hopes up."

"He's three," I say.

"But he has the mind of a seven year old. I'm telling you to be careful."

"Alright," I groan.

"You better watch your tone, missy."

Jocelyn shuts the window as I turn around getting a chilling memory of being a teen. I shudder my shoulders, thinking.

* Four years ago*

"Haze, will you hurry up?"

I run over to my friend, Cora, who was speeding down the street.

"Well, I'd like to if you didn't make me wear these heels."

"They're four inches! And you need to stop wearing those raggedy boots."

"You wear those boots too," I try to defend myself.

"Yeah, but not where we'll be around people, especially older ones."

I roll my eyes and begin to regret going with her anywhere. Cora is a wild chick, doesn't have boundaries and doesn't care about limits. She has been my friend since Junior high. She was a nerd, innocent, and only cared about her grades. Then this rebel side of her came out when her old crush called her boring.

"We are almost there," she says.

I spot where we were walking to and it was a townhouse.

"Cora, are you sure-"

"Just shut up, Haze, you worry too much."

I stay quiet and follow her. The frat house is flashing with lights and people are bouncing to some rap music that I don't care for. Cora smiles and grabs my hand as we push through some people.
