Chapter 3
Marley hummed as she rummaged through the kitchen for any snacks. She crouched down and opened the cabinets underneath the sink, a disappointed grumble leaving her when all she saw were cleaning products. She closed the cabinets and went towards the fridge when she stumbled against her baggy sweatpants, her hand slamming against the island's countertop to steady herself.
"Can I take these off now?" The werewolf asked with a huff, blowing a few strands of her hair out of her eyes.
"No." Jace answered.
"Why not?" Marley pouted as she lifted her hand off the countertop, her ears twitching at the imprint of her hand that was now in the granite before she looked up towards where Jace was sitting at the dining table. The human's attention still being on the small comic book in her hand and allowed Marley to grab the little cactus at the center of the countertop and place it over the cracked granite.
"Because then you'd be naked." Jace explained simply as she turned to the next page.
"So? Wolves are naked all the time."
"Well humans aren't. Just keep the clothes on, Marley."
"Fine." Marley sighed as she finally made it to the fridge and opened it. Another sigh leaving her when she saw that it was as barren as the rest of the kitchen. She looked at the fridge's door, taking notice of the half-used condiments before her eyes landed on a can of whipped cream. A pleased hum left her when she saw that the top was unopened and grabbed it, tearing the top off with her teeth before shaking it.
The redhead walked towards Jace, moving to crouch on her toes atop of the chair next to the human as she brought the can's nozzle to her mouth.
Jace turned to the next page of her manga as the hissing noise of the can was heard beside her, Marley moving to rest her head atop of Jace's shoulder. The blonde felt as the werewolf's throat moved as she swallowed the whipped cream before Marley spoke, her voice quiet as she looked at the comic's pages.
"What're you reading?"
"A manga."
"About what?"
"A guy that hunts demons. He can also transform parts of his body into chainsaws."
"Groovy." Marley mumbled around a mouthful of whipped cream, Jace turning her head to look at her. The wolf looked from the manga to Jace, her gaze curious as she lifted the can up to eye-level.
"Want some?" Marley offered.
Jace's gaze went from the wolf's gray eyes to the can. She shrugged.
"Sure."
"Open!" Marley told her with a grin, Jace arching a brow at the slight command but obeyed nonetheless. She opened her mouth and Marley rested the can's nozzle against her bottom lip before pressing down on it. The wolf kept her finger against the nozzle until the human's mouth was filled up with the sugary fluff before pulling the can away and resting it against her own mouth.
Jace swallowed down the mouthful, running her tongue over her lips for a second, before going back to her reading. Marley finishing up her snack as she stayed beside the human, looking at the manga in her hand before looking at blonde's profile. The bridge of her nose had a slight bump to it when Marley's eyes caught sight of the long white scar that ran from the back of Jace's neck with it seeming to end near the center of her throat.
Her gaze continued down, taking notice of another scar that started just underneath Jace's ear with it continuing down into her shirt. Its longsleeves making Marley unable to see where it ended along with if there were any others. A quiet questioning rumble left her, her chest vibrating with it, as she wondered just how many scars Jace had and where she had even gotten them from.
