Chapter 4

Life was simple for Jace.

Wake up, shower, brush her teeth, get dressed, eat breakfast, hunt a deer or two to sell to the butcher shop, ignore the existence of werewolves, head home, shower, eat dinner, continue to ignore the existence of werewolves, brush her teeth, and go to sleep. See, simple. A simple life for a simple person.

She casted her fishing rod towards the lake, her line's little buoy bobbing gently in the water as she waited for a tug. Her back slouched forward as she waited, the fresh spring breeze cool against her. Despite the warm weather, she wore a white henley longsleeve and dark grey joggers, her hair pulled back into a low ponytail as she hummed softly.

The small lake was well hidden, it being about two miles away from her cabin and having thick foliage that kept it hidden from a passing gaze. Jace herself having found it when she went looking for her rifle a few days after the whole...Nope, ignoring. Ignore, Ignore, Ignore. Do not think about excited gray eyes, or wild russet hair, or comforting rumbles, or...Damn it.

Jace let out an irritated sigh as her brain now refused to stop thinking about Marley, her hand beginning to reel the lure back in when it began to be tugged down. With her mind now having to focus on something other than the werewolf, she started to reel the fish in. She alternated between reeling and stilling to keep the fish still on the line until it was finally close enough towards her to pull her rod back and the fish finally came out the water.

She took notice of it being a rainbow trout as she reached for its wiggling form, her hand wrapping around its head; keeping it from closing around its gills, and maneuvered it off the hook. She laid her rod on the grass before reaching for the plastic bucket beside her, opening its lid and slipping the trout into the water inside it. A low breath left her as she watched it swim in circles in the small space before placing the lid back on, it having several holes poked in it to let sunlight through.

The blonde gave the lid a light tap and reached for her fishing rod once more when she heard the sound of rustling. She stilled, slowly turning her head to look at the foliage behind her, her eyes widening when she took notice of the two small spots of bright blue hidden among all the green.

"No."

"I'm not asking your permission."

Argo growled lowly as he stared down at his youngest pup, Marley glaring up at him with identical bright blue eyes. His other pups hanging around the hut and watching the two of them.

"I'm going to find Jace."

"I. Said. No."

"I'm not a pup anymore, I don't need your permission. I'm only telling you this so you don't do what you did last time." Marley explained with a light growl, her father's left eye twitching slightly before he spoke up once more.

"Marley-"

"Why this human, Marles? Why's she so important?" Canis interrupted, Argo looking towards her with a stern gaze and recieved a shrug in return. She was curious, damn it. Though she never would've expected the answer Marley had given them.

"I want her to be my mate." The youngest answered, rolling her eyes when an uproar was started.

"What?!" Lyra exclaimed.

"Seriously, Marles?!" Pavo supported his older sister.

"Why a human?" Lupus wondered from beside Canis.

"Absolutely not!" Argo roared over his pups, all of them quieting down and watched as their father moved closer to their youngest sibling. He wrapped his hands around Marley's upper arms, his hold firm but not aggressive as he leaned his head down.
