Chapter 8

"Why won't you scream?"

Jace panted softly, the several gouges on her bare abdomen slowly stretching themselves wider with every pained breath. She stared down at her chained and bloody feet, the left one weakly giving a twitch as black groved boots entered her view.

"Scream for me."

Jace clenched her jaw tight, her teeth seeming to creak from the force as the covered man settled himself into a crouch. His leather gloved hands rested on top of his knees, a bloodied up scalpel being held in his right.

A pained grunt left the teenager when the man swiftly stabbed the scalpel into one of her open wounds, her lips curling into a sneer as he twisted it.

"Scream for me, Freak." He spat out.

Jace breathed heavily through her nose as she weakly lifted her head, her left eye glaring up at the masked man as her right remains swollen shut. Her wrists and ankles strained against their bindings when he stabbed the scalpel into her once more.

"Scream." He snarled, his usual quiet voice becoming louder as his balaclava shifted around. His lips were curled into a harsh sneer as he glared at her with dark-blue eyes. A strange, near growl-like sound left him as he rose back up to his full height, harshly yanking the scalpel out and resting it against the side of her neck.

"Scream, damn it!"

Jace's gaze never left the man's even as he placed more pressure on the scalpel, some of the blonde's blood sluggishly leaking onto it.

"SCREAM!!!" He screamed as he dragged the scalpel across her neck.

A weak, pained laugh left Jace's lips as she quirked them up into a trembling grin. As if she'd let him be satisfied. As if she'd give this bastard what he wanted.

She was going to die anyways...

Might as well go out with a smile.

Jace blinked out of her stupor when she heard a soft knock on her room's door, her hand falling away from the scars on her neck. She looked towards it but remained sitting on the edge of her bed, her throat bobbing weakly as she swallowed.

She knew Marley liked her, she wasn't oblivious. Besides it was kinda hard not to think the wolf liked her with how much the redhead 'nuzzled' at her. But for her to want Jace as her mate...

Marley didn't know the pain that Jace had, that she carried. Didn't know how badly she was fucked up that she hid herself deep into the woods to get away from humanity. She didn't know the trauma Jace held inside...

Marley didn't deserve to deal with Jace's fucked-up mind. Nobody but herself should deal with her pain.

And not to even mention her having a-

"Jace?" Marley murmured, her knuckles still resting against the door as her ears took in the sound of Jace shifting on her bed. Her lips pursed slightly before she knocked once more, it being as soft as the first one.

"Can I come in?"

"...Sure." Jace whispered.

The door opened with a soft click, Jace's throat bobbing with a harsh swallow as Marley stepped inside. The redhead was quiet as she closed the door behind her and shuffled to stand at the edge of the bed. The two were silent, Marley's toes curling against the floor with one of her hands moving to nervously scratch at her sternum.
