Chapter 1

1st of September 1975

Marlene was packing her stuff, she was super excited for her fifth year at Hogwarts. She was really happy that she would get to meet her best friends again. "Marlene get down, we're going to King's Cross now!" Marlene's mum called her from downstairs. "Coming mum!" Marlene answered. She picked her suitcase up and ran downstairs.

At the Hogwarts express Marlene started searching for her friends. She bumped into Sirius, her boyfriend and they walked into an empty compartment together. Marlene didn't know why, but she didn't feel quite the same about the boy as she felt before the summer.

"Hi, had a fun summer?" Sirius asked.

"Yeah it was quite nice" Marlene answered stiffly.

Sirius looked at her with a confused look in his eyes "Are you ok?" He asked.

"Yeah, I'm fine. Why?" She said.

Sirius looked her up and down. "Oh nothing. Did you miss me?" He asked.

"Yeah, yeah, I did, of course" Marlene forced a smile.

"You can tell me anything, ok?" He said tucking her hair behind her ear. They sat down opposite to each other and sat in awkward silence while trying to make conversation. Then Remus walked in, he was a tall, skinny boy with sandy hair. Sirius stared at him mesmerized for a brief while. "Oi, Moony! What's good?" Sirius said, greeting his best mate. "I'm good, thanks" Remus answered and sat next to Sirius. Marlene smiled at him and walked out of the compartment.

Well, that was awkward. She thought. As she was looking for her other friends she bumped into a dark, curly haired girl. She was a slytherin. Of course out of all the people, it had to be Dorcas Meadows, the girl she despised the most. Honestly, Marlene didn't know why she despised her so much. She was quite pretty. Now that she thought about it, probably it was because the other girl was a slytherin. "What do you want, McKinnon?" The dark haired girl said. Marlene froze, not being able to say anything. Dorcas looked at her, rolled her eyes and walked away. Today is fucked up. Marlene thought, continuing to look for her friends.

As she was looking she spotted a flame-haired girl, it was probably Lily. Marlene looked into the compartment, yes it was. Of course, Snape was also there. Marlene couldn't count how many times she had warned her friend about the boy but it never worked. As Marlene walked into the compartment the boy walked out. He obviously didn't like anyone that was friends with James.

"Hi!" Marlene said, pulling Lily into a tight hug.

"Hi, how was your summer?" The red haired girl asked.

"Good, what about yours?"

"It was good!"

The girls kept on talking until someone else walked into the compartment. It was James, James Potter.

"Hi Marls! Oh and hi Evans" The boy said, smiling as bright as the sun.

"Oh hi James! I've seen Sirius and Remus further away if you're looking for them" Marlene said smiling

"Thanks, but this is about you, do you know why fucking Dorcas Meadows was talking about you?"

"What the fu... I mean I bumped into her earlier but I didn't care about it that much" That's a lie

"Oh okay, bye then" James said.

"Bye" Marlene Answered.

Lily looked at Marlene confused.

"You're blushing?"

"Wait what? Why would I blush" Marlene laughed nervously.

Then the door to the compartment opened (yes again) and a girl with curly hair walked in.

"Hi Mary!" Lily said happily

"Hi!" Mary answered.

"Hiya Marls!" Mary said a second later. Lily and Marlene hugged the girl as the train took off.

Some time later Marlene realised, she likes a girl. She likes Dorcas Meadows.

When the train arrived at Hogwarts and everyone got out of the train Marlene bumped into someone. Merlin's sake. It was the Meadows girl again. Marlene quickly turned away and walked the other way. She sat in the same carriage as James, Sirius, Remus, Peter and Mary. She sat beside Sirius, he had his arm awkwardly around her.

"Are you guys going out?" Remus asked

"Yeah, we started dating the last week before the summer" Marlene answered

"Oh, cool" Remus said with a note of disappointment in his voice

James tried starting a conversation, of course succeeding but Marlene sat quiet the whole time. What is wrong with me? I obviously like Sirius, I was messaging him the whole summer. Marlene thought, zoned out.

"Marls, are you there" Marlene heard a familiar voice

"We've arrived" Marlene snapped back to reality. It was Sirius trying to get her attention.

"Oh, yeah, sorry, I zoned out" Marlene excused herself

As they walked into the great hall and sat down at the gryffindor table, Marlene felt someone staring at her from the slytherin table but, as she looked over she couldn't spot who it was. The first years we're getting sorted and it was boring as usual. Then the food appeared and the chatter began. Marlene wasn't really hungry but she ate anyway. Two of her friends, Remus and Lily were prefects this year.

As everyone was walking up to their dorms Marlene was talking to Remus,

"Honestly, tell me. What do you see in Sirius?" Remus asked

"I don't really know" Marlene answered

"Oh okay"

"What have you been up to this summer?"
"Just the usual, what about you?"

"Nothing out of the ordinary. I got a new ear piercing tho" Marlene said exited, showing her new piercing, she couldn't wait to get a septum piercing next year. As everyone got to their dorms it had already gotten late. As the girls were packing out in their dorm and talking they heard a knock on their door. Marlene went to open and guess who was there? James and Sirius. They had somehow gotten a whole army of chocolate frogs. The girls tried to get rid of the frogs (thankfully succeeding). It took them some time but it was actually a little bit fun. Then they went to sleep.
