Chapter 7

1st of October

Marlene and Dorcas were officially dating now. They tried to keep their relationship at least a little secret. They didn't want absolutely everyone to know. It was better that some people in particular didn't know. All of Marlene's friends were pretty supportive. That couldn't apply to most of Dorcas' friends, it wasn't that they were bad people, they just weren't very open-minded or supportive of same-sex relationships. Marlene didn't mind not telling everyone. The only thing that was causing any issues was that Marlene was craving constant attention and affection from her girlfriend. She finally experienced what she could call true love. What she thought she had felt for Sirius, or for any other boy she had fallen "in love" with. She was happy and honestly kissing in empty classrooms and spending time privately just felt more intimate, more right basically more like Marlene. They would sing at the top of their lungs, they would go on picnics by the lake and dates to hogsmeade. It was all Marlene could ask for.

"Marlene, wakey wakey!" James shaked her while they were sitting by the gryffindor table.

"Shut up" Marlene murmured sleepily, almost falling asleep on the table.

"We have to practise, we have a quidditch match with ravenclaw next week"

"Bugger off, Potter"

"Yeah, yeah, now come" James said, getting up from the table.

–time skip lol–

After quidditch practise Marlene was so tired she barely made it up into her dorm. She had about an hour to sleep until she had to get up for class. It was the best sleep she had ever gotten. She woke up to Mary running up to her bed,

"Lessons are cancelled because the boys pulled a prank!" Mary said, overly excited.

"When did that happen?" Marlene asked, still sleepy.

"While you were asleep!" Mary explained, still excited. "It went off while me and Lily were eating, we got first row seats!"

"Great, that means I get to sleep more" Marlene shrugged and turned around. She was very sleepy.

When Marlene woke up, the time was 10:03 AM. Mary and Lily were sitting on the bed chattering. Marlene didn't really care what they were talking about. There was an hour left until lunch but she was already hungry. She decided to sneak into the kitchen to get food. She was also thinking about finding Dorcas. They could definitely spend the day together. She got dressed and did her makeup. The common room was full of gryffindors. Marlene saw Remus smoking and walked up to him.

"You got cigs?" Marlene asked

"Stupid question, I always do" He replied handing over a cigarette.

"Yeah, yeah, thanks" Marlene said leaning on the window. They were standing there in silence. Then Marlene had to go because she remembered why she went down from her dorm. "Thanks, got to go though" She said and walked away.

As Marlene was entering the kitchen, she felt a wave of hot air hitting her

"Oi, McKinnon!" Someone yelled out. Marlene could barely move, almost like she had been slowed down.

"Who the fuck are you and what the fuck did you do?!"

"Oh you poor, clueless girl" The voice chuckled "You better shut your queer mouth"

"I.." Marlene was flabbergasted, "Who even are you?!" The person walked into her sight, it was Mulciber, a sixth year slytherin.

"It's me" He hissed.

"Oh, you" Marlene said, trying to sound unbothered. "What do you want?" She asked, trying to hide the nervousness in her voice.

"Yes me, you nasty queer" He said, looking at her in disgust.

"Shut up" She hissed

"Or what? You're gonna tell your friends? The blood traitors and mudbloods?"

"Maybe I can do this by myself" Marlene said, she had un-frozen herself while talking so he didn't notice. She quickly cast a spell "Petrificus totalus!" She yelled and ran off. When she ran back into the common room she was out of breath. She ran up to Sirius and James.

"Mulciber is in the. Passage. Kitchen." She panted. The two boys walked up to Remus and Peter and seemed to tell them about it. Remus, Peter, Sirius and James walked into the passage and came back soon after. They all had triumphal looks on their faces. As they told Marlene they somehow got him back to the dungeons. Really quickly. She later explained what Mulciber had said. She was on the verge of tears but didn't cry. Everyone looked at her in disbelief. Later, Marlene went on a walk around the lake to clear her head afterwards; While she was walking, she saw Dorcas. She jogged up to her and told her about the incident earlier. Dorcas hugged her and tried to comfort her. Marlene couldn't hold back her tears and softly sobbed into Dorcas' shoulder. Dorcas was great at comforting people.

"Who the fuck are you hugging?" Someone said. Shit, shit, shit. Marlene thought. It was one of Dorcas' friends.

"Oh! Uhh.. hi Emma!" Dorcas stammered. It was Emma Vanity, the captain of the slytherin quidditch team.

"Is that fucking McKinnon?!" The shocked girl said.

"Yes, I am" Marlene responded.

"Dorcas, I love you but I don't think you should be on the quidditch team anymore" Emma said with disgust on her face.

"I am the best beater, even you said it!" Dorcas said sharply. "You can't kick me out of the team for this!"

"Alright" She said and rolled her eyes. Now it was Dorcas' turn to cry. Marlene remembered that Dorcas had once told her that she had once had a crush on Emma Vanity in third year which made it all even worse. Marlene couldn't really bear seeing her girlfriend cry.

–Time skipp–

The lessons were cancelled for the rest of the week, Marlene still didn't know what prank the boys had pulled but it was a great one for sure. Marlene was walking down for lunch and felt a hand grab her hand. She was ready to smack the person that was holding her hand but realised that it was just Dorcas.

"Aren't you worried people will find out about... uhh, you know.. Us..?" Marlene asked cautiously.

"If Emma knows, every single person in the school knows" Dorcas sighed "Might as well not hide it anymore"

"It's fun keeping this a little private, I like it" Marlene said.

"It's not like we will get on top of a table and announce it to the whole school" Dorcas assured her girlfriend "I just meant that we won't hide it and be scared that people will find out, it's gonna be okay"

"I love you more than you know" Marlene said and kissed Dorcas on the cheek.
