Mass Death

Date: July 4th, 2022

The sight was horrifying. Masses of bodies littered the streets of Downtown Cincinnati but that was far from the only place this happened. In Northgate, the gay village of Cincinnati, it was even worse. In New York City, it was beyond horrifying. Let me explain how I found myself on an alternate Earth where life for marginalized people had already reached a point completely opposite of cultural pluralism by the 246th birthday of "God's country" aka one of the most imperialistic, oppressive, and genocidal empires in history. It all started after I time traveled using one of the newly improved Quantum Leap bands to see for myself what Despair did in 1921. Dominic finally got time travel tech to fit in the bands without less performance than a full sized time machine. That massacre done by Despair was extremely gruesome. I didn't intervene because I'm not fucking up the past if I can help it.

Anyway, I headed back to the present and wrote down everything that happened. It was an off day for me and the rest of Miitopia BRAINS. We took the day off from training or whatever else we were doing to go exploring and all that fun shit. We needed it. I had spent the first half the day hanging out and bonding with the others. The 2nd half, I decided to go to other universes and document the intel on them that I would gather. I focused on alternate Earths, Minecraftias, and Miitopias as they would be among the easiest universes to understand for us. Dominic sees me finish the report and walks over: "Hey Adam. Would you like to check out more universes with me? I trust you so much and want to spend some more time with you. That and we are an ideal match as a pair in battle." I nod: "Why not. Who knows, maybe we'll need to lean on each other for emotional support. After all, not every version of Earth, Miitopia, or Minecraftia is as well off as the Minecraftia we know." "Very true. I just woke up from a nap so I'm good to go. Are you ready?" "Yes, let's do this!" And with that, we explore a bunch of worlds in different universes. Not much noteworthy though, a lot of them are pretty average. But then, we enter an Earth that has the same exact date and such that my Earth, our Miitopia, and our Minecraftia share.

"If I'm being honest, this trip has been mild and not very dangerous. We should teleport to the Cincinnati of this universe/timeline. It's for the best if we do, I know the city and surrounding area quite well. Worldwide and nationwide problems reflect immensely on the city. Which is no surprise considering how many complicit people who refuse to know any better live in the city. It is part apathy, part set in one's ways, part other stuff." He replies with a firm nod: "You keep making that a point at least once a month! Alright then, put on your Swiftdrawer costume and then we'll go there." "This Earth seems similar to mine so that is the most optimal action. There's at least 100 people in the area who know me personally. Family, teachers, school staff, and some friends." A few minutes later, we are standing in the middle of Downtown Cincinnati with horrified expressions on our faces. There's got to be several hundred if not more corpses all over the streets. Bodily fluids and even some organs outside of the bodies make it much worse.

The smell of decomposition and other things invade our nostrils with a intense force: "Dominic, whoever did this is well equipped. It could have been some of those pesky bigoted patriots, them coppers, or even worse, a portion of the people who help control and subjegate people in other countries. We need to get out of here right away. There are surveillance cameras hidden from view all over or at least I assume so. Damn it, we teleported here without thinking. Here comes unwanted attention." The shout of a copper alerts us. Dominic swears under his breath: "You're right. We got sucked into the fun and now we're paying the price. Where do you suggest we go? You know this city better than anyone in the collective." "I know just the place. It's not downtown, downtown is too public to hide really anywhere. I don't even see some alleyways or know the locations of any. It's really one of the only places where we won't run into anyone else. Did I ever tell you about the Forest Fair mall? It's as good as abandoned its days are numbered. The lighting in there doesn't even fully function anymore, it gets dim and creepy in some areas especially at night. There's so many empty stores. Then again, the Tri County Mall could be a good place to go too considering Covid must have wrecked it here too but no, that mall is not dead enough to hide in. Okay, that sounded better in my head."
