Underground
Chapter 13:
402 A.V; Month 9; Day 19There was silence and noise all at once. They were trying to get in through the trapdoor and I was trying to claw my way out, shouting at the top of my lungs for someone to let me out. The only light came from runners in the floor; it gave a soft white glow. Arms wrapped around my waist, pulling me away. I didn't care who it was; I didn't want to leave. An explosion sounded outside the door, causing debris to fall from the ceiling and the door to dent.
"Alloy, come on."
It was Sabre's voice near my ear as he lifted me over his shoulder and ran forward. Andon pushed a button on the wall, in his arms was Leola. Up from the ground rose a piece of thick metal and the pathway to the trapdoor was blocked off. Sabre stopped and let me down, gripping my shoulders in his hands.
"What the hell is wrong with you?!" He shook me as I tried to get away from him.
"Leave me alone," I said, tears falling down my face, which was pounding.
"Answer me! You were going to risk your life for that worthless kid! A stupid kid!!" His voice had gone hoarse at the end. I didn't want him there. I didn't want him in my face and asking me questions.
"Get away from me!" I shouted back, trying to twist away, "Leave me alone!" His grip became bone crushing and he got in closer.
"Answer my fucking question! ANSWER ME!"
"Sabre," Andon shouted, but it did nothing, "She's in shock, let her go." Sabre's eyes were filled with suspicion and anger.
"No," Sabre growled, letting his face come to rest near mine. My heart was in my throat and I just wanted to scream, to tear him apart because he was going off the deep end. "You liked the kid more than me, didn't you?" His lips drifted across my cheek. I clenched my fists and struggled, really tried my hardest to get away from him, but he was too strong.
"Let me go," I hissed, beating at his chest as best I could. He didn't move at all and pressed his lips against my neck. It pissed me off, made me hate him even more. I wanted him to learn, to stop thinking he could do whatever he liked. My hands prickled and I felt a tendril of strange energy uncoil inside my body, like my cells themselves were humming.
"Let. Me. Go," I growled and let loose whatever energy had built up. I shoved at him and as I did, cerulean blue bolts of lightning-like energy zipped around him like fireflies. He stumbled back, his eyes filled with fear and shock as he fell back to the ground. I stood over him, breathing hard.
"Never touch me again," I hissed and had to fight to keep myself upright. He slowly pulled himself up and stood against the wall. He didn't say or do anything, just slipped away and walked down the hall, looking back once before jogging out of sight.
"Alloy," Andon said, his voice low. I turned, almost glaring at him.
"Why didn't you do anything?" I asked. He looked rather upset and pain flitted across his face, not physical, but emotional.
"It wouldn't have done any good," he said quietly, "You need to take her. He's gone to get his father and I shouldn't be here."
He gently held Leola out to me. I honestly wasn't sure I was strong enough to take her, but I did anyway. He stood there like he wanted to say something more, but he turned away.
"Wait," I said. He stopped and turned, looking completely worn out. His right shoulder was bloody and I wondered how much pain he was in.
"We'll talk, I'll come to you," he said and turned away, opening up some doorway in the hall and slipping through. I stood there, on the verge of collapse, holding Leola tightly. She'd gone silent, but was awake.
