Lesson #14: Become A Ruthless Super Spy - Mystique

(Not edited)

"I don't know, Tyler... we hate Thomas - not his sister."

There was no way I was going to embarrass Thomas through family matters. That was just insanely low. I understand that he may be stressed because of his mum but this was way too far.

He groaned and rested his head in his hands, slightly pulling on a few strands of his brown hair. "Ella, he lives in my house, bullied you and took my so-called girlfriend. He deserves everything that's thrown his way."

I glanced down at the empty mug in my hands and shook my head. Thinking back to these last few weeks, I realised just how much I had changed. And I hated every bit of it. I hated getting detentions and talking to other students. I hated teachers shouting at me and I hated getting stirred up in everyone else's drama.

"I'm not that kind of person, though, Ty. I can't do this and I'm not going to do this just because you want. You wanted to become Prom King, not me." I reminded him.

Neither of us were shouting - in fact, I was calmer than I had thought I would have been.
He chuckled slightly and I bit my lip, already knowing he was going to try to persuade me.

"But you were supposed to be my Prom Queen, El-"

"No," I laughed quietly, shaking my head with a knowing smirk on my face. "That was never your plan, Tyler. You always wanted Victoria to be your Prom Queen - it would have made things easier for the both of you."

"What are you talking about?"

"You know exactly what I'm talking about. The only way you could really become Prom King was if you had a hot girlfriend to take the moment with you. Victoria actually talks to people, she's not like me."

"Ella, you are-"

"No, I'm not feeling sorry for myself, I'm just stating the truth."

"There's nothing bad about being quiet." But you're being quiet about your mum.

"I never said there was anything wrong with being quiet. I've been meaning the exact opposite as a matter of fact."

"How?" He scoffed.

"I enjoy being me, I love sitting in my room and sleeping all day. I like doing homework all night and getting compliments from teachers. I want to be respected in a different way to you Tyler, why don't you understand that?" I asked, standing up.

"I do-"

"No, let me finish," I snapped. He needed to tell me about his mum; it was eating away at him. "Why are you dragging me along if I'm no use to you anymore? You know I hate all of this and I know you have your own reasons for wanting this. I've respected your choices, so now you have to do the same. Stop feeling sorry for me because we're friends and start telling me things."

And then, Tyler stormed out, slamming my bedroom door on the way.

*****

To say to I was in a pissy mood was an understatement. Tyler wouldn't answer my calls and actually slammed the front door in my dad's face. And on top of that, he didn't even turn up for work so I had to sit in the same room as Thomas -the super prick - for two and a half hours.

"Trevor, put that down!" I yelled, running around the counter to get the precious X-Men comic off of him. He laughed and jumped behind the till, almost pushing Charlie off his chair.

"What the hell, Trevor? Put the bloody comic book down." He said in a grumpy voice. Charlie's blonde hair was a mess, and the bags under his eyes told me why. His left hand clutched his precious coffee mug and he yawned, making his Adventure Time shirt rise a little.
