Lesson #15: Work It All Out - The Riddler
(Really unedited - sorrynotsorry)
Slamming the school doors open, I stormed inside the building ignoring the surprised faces looking my way. When I reached Tyler's locker I frowned; he was smiling. I walked up to him, slightly cautious of his happiness and was shocked to see him open his arms for a hug.
"Tyler, I was meaning to speak to you," I said, taking a step back so I wasn't hugged. My hair would get messy and it took me several YouTube videos and half an hour of practice to get this Fishtail right.
"Ella," he sighed as he ran a hand through his brown hair. I noticed it had grown a lot and was no longer in it's smart trimmed style. Strands of hair now ran across the top half his forehead.
It looked a lot nicer.
"I'm sorry for storming out, it just got to me that I..." he paused and bit his lip before continuing, "I didn't realise that you never wanted any of this and now I've dragged you into it an there's no going back. And I'm sorry, Ella."
"That was a semi-crappy apology but I accept it," I replied with a small smile. "But only because I'm a loner and nobody in this school likes me."
He laughed at this and we made our way down to Year 11 assembly as the bell rung above us. I took a seat beside Tyler in the hall and waiting quietly for everyone else to arrive. "What lesson have we got next?" Tyler whispered.
"Er... History I think."
"Now that everyone has arrived....Ahem..." The headteacher coughed as he glared at a few front row students who were talking. "Thank you," he continued after everyone went silent. "Now, I understand that your prom will be coming up in a few months-"
A chorus of cheers ran through the assembly hall and were quickly shut up by an angry glare.
"But so are your exams."
A chorus of groans and mutters were heard as students started their opinions on the subject. "GCSE's can suck my-"
"Emma Williams! Get out, right now!"
Tyler snickered under his breath with a few other students as the girl marched out of the hall, a proud smirk on her lips. She turned back and grinned at the staring students before she pulled the door closed behind her and followed one of the behavior staff. Shaking my head in amusement, I faced the front to listen to what the headteacher was now talking about.
"...will not be tolerated and that's why the staff and I have discussed removing Prom."
"What?" Tyler gasped.
"That's not fair!"
"I'll piss in your tea, old man. You can't remove our happiness."
"Year 11, this is exactly what I'm talking about. This is unacceptable. I understand why you would be upset and that's why we would like to discuss the matter in a formal assembly with you. This is your school and everything you do will affect it."
He paused and smiled when he was returned with silence (for once). "We would like you to focus on your exams a lot more and know that Prom can be a distraction. I've been in a lot of meetings this past week and have spoken about our current situation to others. We together have come up with a proposal for you - however your current behavior may change my mind."
People quietly started to mutter to the person next to them but Tyler and I stayed quiet, both lost in thought. With a clap of his hands and a cough, the headteacher continued.
