"So where's the new house Mum?" I asked as we loaded the last few things into the back of the moving van.

"I told you, it's a surprise." She said grinning.

"How far away is it?" I questioned.

"Far enough for you to want a small snooze in the car on the way there." She told me getting into the car.

I hopped into the passenger seat and put on my seat belt as my Mum turned on the car engine. "It's a few hours. Isn't it?" I asked making a wild guess.

My Mum smiled and pulled out of the drive of the house that no longer belonged to us.

I took one last glance and memories came flooding back. "Can you remember that time we tried making pancakes for the first time?" I laughed as I embraced the flashbacks.

My Mum let out a small giggle. "How could I forget? That was a disaster."

"But it was fun." I smiled.

"It sure was." She pulled into the nearest petrol station and got out of the car to fill it up.

"Where's the lorry?!" I called through the closed window of the car and out to my Mum.

"I think they're slowly behind." She called back.

"Shall I call them to let them know we've stopped for petrol?" I asked just after winding down the window so she could hear me clearer.

"It's alright. They know where they're going so we'll just meet them there if we're far behind." She told me as she finished filling the car up with petrol.

"OK then." I relaxed back in my seat and watched my Mum wander into the building to pay.

A few moments later, she returned with a bottle of water and two sandwiches. "I thought we might get hungry." She said placing the contents on my lap and getting into the car.

"Looks yummy." I smiled at the food on my lap.

The car journey went very slow. I dozed off for an hour during the time we were on the motorway and had my music quietly playing through my earphones. We stopped for an hour before the arrival for a bathroom break and set off again shortly after.

After a three hour drive and a silent one too, we arrived at the new house. It was seperated from the others and stood out like a sore thumb. The front garden was filled with grass and was severely overgrown but had a small pathway leading to the front door. There were two trees at both sides of the inner corners of the fence that were slowly getting their leaves back as spring came into season.

My Mum pulled into a parking space in front of the overgrown garden that belonged to our new house and leaped out of the car. "Isn't it amazing?!"

I got out of the car myself and wandered around to the front of the house. It looked deserted and old. "It looks great Mum." I lied.

"I know you're lying." She said. "Wait until you see inside." She closed the car door and walked through the gate of the house and up to the front door.

I stood by the car and watched her search the porch for the front door key.

"Come on!" She called over to me before inserting the key into the lock of the front door and disappearing into the house.

I slowly walked up to the gate and pushed it open. I took a look around at what looked like a forest and quickly ran into the house hoping nothing would jump out of the grass and eat me. "First that grass needs cu..." I paused at the sight of the foyer. It was bigger than my previous bedroom and a glass chandeleir hung proudly in the centre of the ceiling. "This is incredible!" I exclaimed.

"Come and look at this." My Mum appeared from nowhere, grabbed my hand and took me into the kitchen.

I stood in the doorway at the amazing view. There were worktops following around the edge of the room and an island sat in the middle of the room. There was an oven placed at the far right hand side, accompanied by a sink. On the other side of the room was the fridge; a large white fridge. Next to the fridge was a door and through that door was the utility room. It was the biggest utility room I had ever seen. "What are we going to do with all this space Mum?" I asked as I ran my hand across the workbench next to the washing machine.

"Fill it." She smiled.

"With?" I questioned.

"Stuff." My Mum wandered back into the kitchen and into the foyer.

I followed her taking in every little detail of the house.

"Go and explore. I'll start unloading the van." She said walking out the front door and back into the invisible monster infested front garden.

I looked up at the ceiling in the foyer and noticed the chandelier hung from the ceiling of the very top floor. I placed my hand on the banister and trailed up the stairs to find my bedroom. There were two rooms on the half landing. I took a look inside both to see if there was anything interesting. One was a closest and the other was a small bathroom. After taking a quick peek, I continued to wander upstairs. I stopped when the stairway ended and focused on each of the four doors on the landing. I picked up my courage and opened the one at the back. The room blasted me with sunshine as it beamed through the windows. It was the master bedroom. It was empty apart from a fireplace that sat at the far right side of the room. I closed the door leaving the sunshine to continue heating up the room and took myself into the next room. It was very much the same as the master bedroom except smaller and no fireplace. I closed the door and went into the next room. It was definitely the smallest by far and had no fireplace or beaming sunlight. I took one step inside and the floorboard creaked. I instantly jumped and returned back to the doorway.

"Alison!" My mum called through the house. "We have some visitors!"
