you waited patiently for three whole days. you were wondering if he'd ever call. your feelings for rivers felt so natural. you felt safe around him.
but he didn't call. you felt hopeless. maybe your number rubbed off of his hand. you paced your room while listening to your smiths record. "maybe he just didn't like me.." you said to yourself while sitting down on your bed.
just then, you hear the phone ring from downstairs. at this point, you had lost hope. all the calls these past few days have been from your friends or for your mom.
after a minute, there's a knock on your door. "come in!" you yell while turning down your record volume. your mom opens the door. "hey, y/n, there's a boy on the phone asking for you." you look up from your record. "what boy?" you question. "he says his name is rivers." your mom replies. you stand up quicker than anyone has ever moved before. you push past your mom and run down the stairs, almost falling down in the process.
you pick up the phone while catching your breath. "h-hello?" you hoped he was still on the line. "h-h-hi. is this y/n?" his voice sounded so sweet on the phone. "it's rivers.." you gulped. "hey. uh, yeah this is," you chuckle, "i honestly thought you weren't gonna call." "yeah, i'm, uh, sorry about that. i got really nervous. but i figured since i'm free today, i would man up and call you." he sounded as nervous as he said he was. "lucky me then." you pause, waiting for him to talk. but he doesn't. "so uh, were you calling for anything specific." you questioned. "oh, uh, yeah actually. since i'm off work today, i was wondering if you, um..." he trailed off. you waited for him to finish but the other end was silent. "hello? rivers, are you still there?" you honestly thought your mom had forgotten to pay the phone bill again and it got shut off. but you hear him clearing his throat on the other end. "yeah, sorry. i was wondering if you maybe wanted to go get coffee with me this afternoon," he said that last part very fast, "if you're free." he finished. your heart fluttered. did rivers just ask you on a date? "oh... yeah for sure! does 3 work?" he hummed in response. "that works for me. i'll pick you up." you give him your address and finish your conversation. upon hanging up the phone, you squeal and jump around your kitchen. "i'm going on a date with rivers cuomo!"
