{◇~3rd person POV:~◇}
As Thomas made his way back to Tidmouth sheds at the end of the day he thought about the old engine. He had so many questions to ask but he knew he had to wait, even if he didn't want to. He looked up, taking his eyes off the rails, and saw the others in their sheds chatting. He rolled onto the turntable and waited until it turned him the right way. He backed into his shed and let off steam. Gordon was boasting about how he'd been on time all day and hadn't been late once. Henry was blocking him out and staring into the distance, Edward looked too tired to care about what Gordon was talking about.
The other engines were either ignoring him or too tired to bother. Finally Edward spoke up, "Gordon, we're all tired, I'm glad you're proud of yourself for doing your job but please let some of us rest." He said, Gordon huffed but backed into his shed anyways. The others copied and soon most of the sheds doors were closed and soft snoring could be heard. Thomas looked up at the moon and stars, he'd never really given it much though but the fact that everyone could see the same sky he could gave him peace enough to fall asleep.
《Time Skip》
When Thomas woke up it was morning and he was being woken up to go gather Gordon's coaches. Thomas yawned and puffed out of his shed. The sky was light and blue, puddles were scattered all over the ground, it must have rained, Thomas thought to himself. He made his way to the turntable but was snapped out of his thoughts but a shrill whistle. "Careful Thomas!" Percy squeaked, Thomas realized that in his tired state he'd nearly crashed into Percy. "I'm sorry Percy, I must not have woken up fully." Thomas said. "That's alright, just be more careful next time." Percy laughed a bit and used the turntable.
Thomas followed and hurried to the shunting yard. He scurried about the yard, gathering the express coaches as quickly as he could. He brought them to the station and sighed with relief, he was on time. He accidentally spaced out and suddenly there was a loud bang. "Thomas! Be more careful with my coaches!!" Gordon shouted back to him. "Sorry..." Thomas mumbled sarcasticly, he uncoupled from the coaches and chuffed off to fetch his own coaches. Annie and Clarabel were waiting in their usual siding. "Oh Thomas you're here!" Annie greeted, "finally, we've been waiting for a while now." Clarabel added.
Thomas coupled up to them, "It's been a long morning, I haven't had a chance to wake up properly." Thomas said. "Oh yes, Edward told us how boastful Gordon was being yesterday," Clarabel said. "It must have kept you up for hours!" Annie remarked with a little laugh, knowing how prideful Gordon could be. Thomas laughed with them, he began to move forward and made his way to his first stop. On his way he thought more about that old engine, it plagued his mind and consumed his thoughts. Thomas stared blankly at the rails below him.
So, she worked on Sodor...but didn't have a name? How does that happen? Every engine should have a name! Hmm what's a good name that fits her?
"Thomas!" Annie called snapping Thomas out of his thoughts, "you've overshot the platform!" Annie and Clarabel told him. Thomas screeched to a stop and reversed back to the platform he'd missed. Some of the passengers got off and new ones got on to fill their place. Thomas sighed, he couldn't consintrate, today just wasn't his day. A whistle was blown and Thomas started off again. He made his way down the line and tried to focus but his mind kept wondering. Thomas looked up and realized he was already at the next station, I've got to get it together, he thought slowing to a stop.
The day seemed to blur together and dissappear. Thomas made his way to the shunting yard to drop of Annie and Clarabel so they could get their rest. As Thomas was leaving Percy began to puff along side him. "Hey Thomas! You've been pretty distant today, are you alright?" Percy asked. "Uhh... It's a bit of a long story." Thomas said trying to get out of giving an explanation. "Huh, well both me and Edward have noticed how you've been acting since yesterday and we're kinda worried. Are you sure you're alright?" Percy asked just to be sure.
"Yes I'm sure, just tired and a bit sore." Thomas lied, he didn't like lying to Percy, but he wasn't sure what else to do. They both made their way back to Tidmouth sheds and settled in for the night. "Thomas, are you feeling okay? You've been very quiet lately." Edward asked. Damnit, Thomas thought, now everyone is looking at me...I need a way out of this. "I'm fine, just feeling a little under the weather I suppose." Thomas lied again, he didn't want to lie but he didn't want the others to know the real reason he was being quiet.
"All right, if you're sure." Edward said, clearly not believing him. The others slowly fell asleep one by one and soon Thomas was on his own again. "That was close, too close." He said quietly, he looked back up at the sky. "Tomorrow I'll go and visit that engine again." Thomas continued, "and ask her all those questions I've thought about today...maybe it will help me focus again." He whispered. Wait a minute, he thought, that's it! Whisper! I'll call her Whisper! It makes so much sense considering she's so quiet! Thomas thought, beaming to himself.
"Whisper, I like it." He said to himself.
