{◇~3rd person POV:~◇}

It had been another long day of Thomas feeling distracted and distant. He'd already accidentally bumped into James, nearly bumped into Henry, and he went down the wrong track and had to back up. He was embarrassed and exhausted, but he stuck to his word and traveled to the smelters yard. He passed a few engines on the way, they greeted him with a friendly whistle but he was too focused to whistle back. Once he arrived at the smelters yard he looked around, going to the same siding he had gone down to find Whisper.

He found her, asleep. "Hello? Hellooo?" Thomas said, trying to wake her up gently and not scare her. "Huh? Oh! It's you again." She said quietly, Thomas smiled. "Yea! And I've got good news!" He said excitedly, "what is it?" She asked. "I've found a name for you!" Thomas announced, "really? What did you pick?" She questioned. "Well, I thought that, because you're so quiet, you could be called Whisper!" Thomas said, thinking he'd been very clever. "Whisper...I like it, it fits," Whisper said smiling softly. Thomas smiled wider, feeling very proud of himself for finding the perfect name.

"Speaking of names, I don't know yours." Whisper said. "Oh! I suppose you don't, well, I'm Thomas!" He told her. "Hmm, that name fits you." She said. Thomas didn't know what that meant but he had other questions to ask. "So, if you don't mind my asking, how did you get to Sodor?" Thomas asked. Whisper was quiet for a moment, "well, my railway didn't have the money to keep me running so I was sold to the Northwestern. A few years after that the company went bankrupt and all the other engines were either sold or scrapped." She said.

"Oh..." Thomas said, he decided not to let that ruin the mood. "When you got to Sodor, why didn't I see you? Or hear about you?" He asked. "Well, when I was on my other railway I had a terrible accident, they couldn't afford the repairs so they sent me away. I suspect I was only bought out of pity, but I couldn't run so I was put on a siding. I've been moved to many places around the island but finally I was found and put here." Whisper explained. "Who put you here?" Thomas continued asking questions, hoping it would cure his curiosity. "I don't know, I was found by a diesel and he told two other diesel and they brought me here." Whisper said.

"How long have you been here?" Thomas asked. "I'm not sure, a few years at least." Whisper answered. "What did the diesels that put you here look like?" Thomas asked, trying to find out who'd done it. "The first one was painted in all black, but the other two were both painted yellow." Whisper said, It'd been a long time since then but she remembered it well enough. Thomas knew exactly which diesels she was talking about, he didn't want to give away the fact that he knew about Whisper but in the deepest parts of his boiler he wanted to confront them. "Do you have any other questions for me?" Whisper asked, still smiling softly.

"Oh! I do!" Thomas said, remembering what he thought was the best question he had. "Can I use you as inspiration for a ghost story?" He asked excitedly. Whisper was surprised and silent for a moment. "A ghost story?" She questioned softly, "yea! Me and my friends love ghost stories! And you're perfect for a ghost story! Uh...no offense." Thomas said. Whisper chuckled, "I suppose you could, just don't give anything away." She said quietly. "Of course! I don't need the other engines finding you and telling the Fat Controller." Thomas said. "You know, that was probably the best and the strangest compliment I've ever been given, no ones said I'd be perfect for a ghost story before." Whisper said with a soft laugh.

Thomas laughed too, "well, there's a first time for everything." He said. "Well, It's getting late...I should probably go." Thomas said, a bit sad that he had to leave Whisper alone again. "Alright, I'll see you later then Thomas." Whisper said with a small smile. "Of course, I'll come back and visit soon! I promise!" Thomas said starting to back out of the siding. He left the smelters yard and made his way back to Tidmouth sheds. He yawned, the sunset was nearly over and the stars were already out. He found himself already on the turntable, he backed into his shed and yawned again.

Thomas looked over at Percy who was practically asleep already. "Hello Thomas," said Edward "where have you been?" He asked. "Oh...uh, I was...just puffing around, clearing my smoke box y'know?" Thomas said. Edward hummed, accepting the answer before returning his attention to Henry, who was gushing about a cute bird he saw. Thomas listened too, he liked listening to his friends every now and then, especially when he knew they were talking about something important to them. Gordon, on the other hand, was staring off into space, probably not even thinking at all.

After a while the engines decided to call it a night. They backed into their sheds, the doors were closed, and everyone except for Thomas fell asleep. Thomas was planning out the ghost story he was going to tell. He wanted it to be spooky, and at least a little realistic, but not realistic enough to scare the others too badly. The more he thought about it the more tired he felt, it was getting harder to keep his eyes open. He sighed and shut his eyes, finally falling asleep at a normal hour for once.
