Slight abuse and bad language

"I swear young man one of these days I'll make you regret what you say to me." As she walked into the house the first thing she noticed was the pungent smell that hit her. So much for hiding the alcohol.

Carmen immediately spotted Alex in the floor of the living room, running towards him and getting on her knees beside him.

"Ah Carmen. You're home." She loathed hearing him say her name like he hadn't been abusing it the last time he was here.

"Leave Alex alone."
"Ah. Still so naive. I was hoping you would of changed in the time I was gone." His words were slightly slurred.
"Where were you dad?" She was beginning to feel frustrated at the way he talks to them. As if he wasn't the one who left them to fend for themselves.
"Oh you know. Just been here and there." He towered over siblings on the floor and cracked an evil smile. He leant down and got in Carmen's face, Alex not being able to move due to the blood pouring out of his nose being a warning.

"Now Carmen. Either you step aside and let me finish what I started, or we're gonna have an issue." She stood her ground, glaring straight back at his harsh glare, she didn't really care what happened to her. She just wanted him gone.

One harsh blow to her lip and one to the side of her head and she had fallen right next to Alex, her teeth clenched together in anger but she didn't retaliate, knowing she couldn't take a grown man. Especially when he was under the influence.

"Now. You two better stay out my sight tonight."

The two were left alone again and she didn't spare another glance his way as she stormed out of the house, wiping the blood off her lip as she stormed down the dimly lit street. Why had Alex called her? Not like she was ever any help.

As the house came into view she finally felt the emotion hit her. Why now? Why did he have to come home and ruin everything. One tear lead to a whole flood streaming down her face by the time she had reached the Blakes' front door. She had prayed they hadn't fallen asleep yet, not having to want to explain this to their dad.

Fortunately she was met with a familiar face as the door swung open, his slight smile dropping as he looked at her face. Robin dragged her inside and lead her to the bathroom without saying a word, most likely waiting on her to break the silence first.

She pulled herself onto the counter as he reached below and looked around for a medkit. He ran a cloth under warm water and began to dab at her lip and the spot beside her temple, wiping away any blood.

"Sorry about coming round so late it's just that I didn't know where else to go and I thought you might be able to help-" He cut her off swiftly.
"I don't mind. I wasn't sleeping anyway. Do you wanna talk about it?"
She took a deep breath as he applied some cream to her wounds and brushed her hair out of her face, something she had come to appreciate.

"He does this everytime he comes home. I have no idea where he goes or what he does. Hell, we only survive without him because of the money our mother left behind when she left us. I don't get along with my brother Alex, he says I remind him too much of mom. We at least try to though when dad gets home, there's never any point in arguing when you're on the same side."

Robin took a deep breath, listening carefully as he took in everything she was saying. She didn't deserve this. She was the most amazing girl he had ever met. Yet the most troubled. She smiled slightly, wiping away her tears as though that never happened.

"I'm gonna go back to Gwen's room. I would of been staying there tonight anyway." He nods his head, backing away from her so she can get down from the counter.

She brushes past his shoulder, muttering a small thanks before disappearing down the hallway.

Robin was honestly shocked, replaying her words as he rinsed the blood out of the cloth.

Morning came around and Gwen woke up to Carmen sleeping on top of a blanket on her floor. Gwen carefully stepped over over her and made her way to the kitchen where robin and finney were making food.

"Did anyone hear Carmen come back in last night?" Gwen yawned as she sat in her seat at the table.

"Yeah I let her in." Robin answered, not wanting to relay any information Carmen wouldn't want him to.
"Alright I'll ask her later." He silently thanked her because he would not want to have to explain it.

Fortunately, Carmen had walked in at that moment, preventing any other awkward conversations.

"What happened to your face?" Finney questioned, moving further forward in his seat to take a closer look.
"Oh um got up last night to use the bathroom and walked into the wall." Lying came easy to her, lots and lots of practice.

Finney and Gwen nodded, seemingly believing her lie and she took a deep breath in relief. Robin glanced at her and nodded when she caught his eye, smiling slightly and looking back down at his bowl.

"So I've gotta go home soon. Check on Alex you know?" They siblings nodded at her and Robin grimaced. There was no way he was letting her go back there by herself.

He ran after her once she walked out the door and caught up to her down the street.
"You can't go back Carmen."
"I have to. I've got to make sure Alex is okay."
"But-"
"Hey it's ok. My dad will be asleep by now so it's alright."
"I'm still waiting outside for you. Just so I'm there if you need me."
She smiles gratefully as they reached her house as she turned to face him and he took the hint to step back by the gate and watch her walk inside.

He wasn't gonna lie. The nerves were eating at him from the inside just thinking about her getting hurt.

There was no noise from the house and it made his nerves shake even more, the silence was killing him.

Around 10 minutes had passed when Carmen finally came back out of the house and Robin let out a staggered breath at seeing her.
"Everything alright?"
"Yeah yeah. Not a scratch on Alex that I hadn't already seen. Dad pretty much left after I did and never came back."

She seemed relieved to know he wasn't around and so was Robin.
"You can stay at mine tonight if you want?"
"Nah it's alright. I'll see you Monday?"
Robin tried to hide his disappointment with a smile but it was difficult as he was really wanting to spend more time with her.

"Yeah yeah see you Monday." He turned around and slowly made his way to the gate, about to open it before she spoke up again.
"Robin?" He quickly turned around, hoping she had changed her mind but was met with something better. Her arms wrapped around his torso and her head rested in the crook of his neck. It took a second but he wrapped his arms around her and closed his eyes slightly, enjoying the moment.

She smelt like roses.
