Asante spent the better part of the next two months spending more and more time in The Now. She, Aissa, Marie, J.StaRR, and Massah started their days together in group meditation. This sharpened Asante's ability to get out of her thoughts and into the present more keenly. After morning meditations they would do yoga out on the cliffs followed by a hike. Marie would then prepare them lunch much like her grandmother used to do for the members of The Wave before her.
During lunch, the conversation always included a discussion on the sad state of affairs in the world. Asante was astonished every day by how much she didn't know about the world she had inhabited for thirty years. She learned of the grid which facilitated the veil over society. Banking records, online social media profiles, GPS, as well as many other facets of modern day living created the building blocks of the grid.
Superimposed on top of the grid are the many facets of the veil. False religion, education, capitalism, democracy; all used to prohibit, instead of their intended purpose of liberation. The discords that society has accepted as status quo, from racism and classism to poverty and malnutrition, all devised and perpetuated to keep the view of the masses filtered by the veil. What she had always assumed were fantasy ravings of conspiracy theorists had actual validity. Drugs were being flooded into impoverished neighborhoods, authorities were actually assassinating heroes and heroines that could shed light on the truth, all the while society marched forward complacent and complicit amongst these atrocities.
But in response, they only spoke of the new age, which they had no doubt was coming. All the problems of the world would not exist, but Asante noticed that there were no cohesive plans to get from point A to point B. There was no discussion of the mechanism which would facilitate society's evolution.
She didn't know if these discussions were happening solely for her benefit and the real planning was happening elsewhere but she was waiting for the right moment to bring it up with Aissa. It had been difficult to get one-on-one time with her. Asante was beginning to wonder if she was purposefully avoiding her. After lunch every day she seemed to disappear.
As they were clearing the plates, once lunch was finished Asante asked, "Can I talk to you?"
"About what?"
"A few things, but presently, why you've been avoiding me?"
Aissa smirked, as she began to walk out of the kitchen. "I'm not avoiding you, I'm just inundated with the all the moving parts of what we are aiming to do. Not all of which include you just yet."
Slightly offended but also curious, Asante continued, "Like what?"
"Like, you need to focus on being prepared and not what I'm doing." Aissa shot back as she left the room. Asante stood there not knowing how to feel.
The rest of the day Asante stayed in her room feeling annoyed at best and lost in her head. So much for The Now, she thought and what was Aissa hiding?
Despite what Aissa said, Asante was almost sure that whatever she was hiding had everything to do with her. A knock on her door interrupted her thoughts.
"Come in." She called out.
Marie stood in the doorway.
"You look and feel like you need a break, let's get out of here." She smiled, held up her car keys and dangled them in the air.
"Yes, yes that's exactly what I need!" Asante got out of the bed, grabbed a sweater and followed Marie out of the room. Marie had already pulled her car around which was parked out front when they walked outside. A teal green Volkswagen Beetle. It perfectly suited her. As Marie started the engine, Asante asked: "So where are we going?"
