ACT I: PART V
chapter five: hold on i still want you

They were walking through the woods, having packed up and finished for the day.

"You never said what I was saying," Nancy spoke, breaking the silence.

"What?" replied Jonathan.

"Yesterday," she replied continuing forwards. "You said I was saying something and that's why you took my picture."

"Oh uh, I dont know," he stayed quite for a couple seconds before replying. "My guess, I saw this girl you know," he caught up to Nancy. "Trying to be someone else."

Xaiver, who was behind the pair, flinched at his reply.

"But at that moment," he continued. "It was like you were alone, ot you though you were." he was keeping at her pace. "And you know, you could just be yourself."

Nancy stayed quite before speaking again. "That is such bullshit," she said anger in her tone as she sped up.

Oh no.

"What?" Jonathan said stopped behind Nancy.

"I am not trying to be someone else," she replied, turning to look at Jonathan and walking to him. "Just because I'm dating Steve and you don't like him-"

Jonathan's shoulders tensed up, "you know what forget it," he said and he walked past her. "I just thought it was a good picture."

Xavier walked to catch up to him, shooting Nancy a sorry smile.

"He's actaully a good guy," she called out.

Xavier flinched.

"The other day with the camera," she continued. "He's not like that at all. He's just being protective."

"Yeah," Jonathan says. "That's one word for it."

"Oh and I guess what you did was ok?" she prodes.

Xavier face scrunches up and he speeds up, leaving the pair to argue within themselves. He can still hear some words inbetween their argument. From the corner of his eye, he sees Jonathan now next to him, the older boys shoulders tense. He turns around and notices Nancy behind them, keeping her distance. He sighs softly, and keep walking through the woods. He mumbles softly about making sure to call Eddie later that night and asking him if they could talk soon. He'd also ask him to stop making deals in the woods while this thing was alive (a part of his brain mentioned how both Barb and Will were taken at night, that Eddie making deals after school in broad daylight was ok and that he'd be safe).

The sun was starting to set, the woods slowly getting dark. The younger boy shivered, having only put on a flannel over his shirt after the funeral (he wanted to get out of the house fast, Jonathan was in front of his house). He saw Jonathan knudge him softly raising his eyebrow, a silent are you okay? Xavier nodded his head and so, the trio kept walking in uncomfortable silence. The sun had set behind the trees, causing them to turn on their flashlights.

Nancy, stopped behind them. Xavier followed suit, causing Jonathan to look at the both of them.

"What, are you tired?" he asked.
