The Plan

Chapter 1

For the whole year, every single day since they departed Colt and Jo would call each other and talk for hours on end. Since they didn't have their own phone line, Colt would have to use the one in the parents bedroom.

Rocky couldn't help but feel a little jealous because for one thing he remembered when him and Emily used to be like that, especially in the beginning of their relationship; except they had a really cool secret tin can phone because they lived beside each other.

And another reason is, over the past while Rocky has been trying to figure out how much he really liked Jo. He has broken up with Emily early in the start of the year and ever since then he was wondering about how Jo been doing.

Did she grow up? Does she look anymore different than the two summers ago during Knuckle Up?

He also was wondering if perhaps she and Colt where in a secret relationship and just didn't want anyone to know.

He made a vow that if he ever got a chance alone with her again he would ask if she had any feelings for him.

He was busying himself in the attached bathroom he shared with his brothers in the bedroom, preparing for night time. Pretty soon it would be time to go up to grandpas for the summer. The seasons where definitely changing and Rocky always loved the feeling.

He was already halfway done packing and now he just had to wait for his brothers. He had recently finished a shower and was now in his green Pj's brushing his hair and staring back at his reflection. He was debating on trying to listen in on Colt's phone call. He could not hear them from the boys' room.

The large light bulbs in the bathroom was extremely bright. He was staring back at himself trying to fix up his drying hair. He so deep in in thought he didn't hear Colt enter the bedroom until he slammed on the door, startling Rocky.

"Hey Rock, are you almost done in there, geese." Colt asked grumpily.

Rocky couldn't help but smirk at his younger brothers annoyance. He finished a few touch ups and headed out, staring at his brother with a "what the heck do you want" expression.

"The three of us need to have a quick brotherly meeting. Meet me and Tum Tum outside, ok." Colt ordered.

Rocky just nodded, his wet brown locks bouncing along with enthusiasm.

"I guess I need to get dressed again." Rocky mumbled.

He decided to just put on a sweater to look half decent, since it was evening time anyway.

Rocky could hear his parents having a ball in the kitchen while they where getting dinner ready.

The smell was very strong and there was music drifting In the air. Mrs Douglas loved playing jazz whenever she was cooking. She said it would help her relax and "make her meals taste better."

When he got outside he could see Tum Tum was sitting on his skateboard on the driveway, talking with Colt.

The two brothers have bonded a lot more lately because Colt had been teaching Tum Tum how to skateboard a lot more this year.

They both shared a board until Tum tum can get one for his birthday or Christmas. Rocky took a deep breathe and when the two younger ones saw him coming down the driveway, he spoke.

"Okay I'm here." He said. It had definitely gotten chilly out at this point and he was glad he decided to wear a sweater.

"Ok so you guys know I been talking to Jo a lot lately on the phone?" Colt asked. Tum tum nodded his head.

"As if we hadn't noticed." I added bluntly. He gave me a brief stare down and then completely ignored Rocky's words, continuing.

"Well, Jo had a great idea and she has invited us all three of us down to stay at her reserve and she asked to see if we can't get grandpa to teach everyone karate."

Rocky felt his heart leap for joy. He thought deep down maybe this could be his chance to get closer to Jo and confess to her during their stay.

He knew grandpa would be totally down for it but at the same time he couldn't help but wonder why she wanted grandpa to teach them

Ninja.

"That's a great idea!" Tum Tum shouted excitedly.

"I'm sure grandpa would come." Rocky added.

"She says there is a house on the reserve by here that no one lives in and they used to use it for people who where visiting family or for an extra clinic. Different stuff like that." Colt explained.

"What do you guys say? All we have to do is get mom and dad to agree."

Rocky then stared down at the ground and thought hard.

"Ok, I'm down." Rocky said they all put their hands in the middle and swung their arms up. That was their special way of either agreeing or pinky promising each other.

"Ok so should we ask now or wait for the right time to bring it up?" Colt asked, automatically turning to his older brother for answers.

"When is Jo expecting us?"

Colt thought for a moment and then answered.

"She said we can come whenever grandpa is getting us. School is still on for another month. She has something urgent to tell us and she wanted to make sure all the people where ok with us coming to stay. I don't think it'll be a problem, really."

"How did she sound on the phone?" Rocky couldn't help but ask these questions because he was genuinely concerned now over Jo. Something was definitely not right.

"She sounded normal until the end of the conversation her tone sounded...frightened for some reason. Especially when she was talking about grandpa teaching. Why Rocky!?" Now Colt was the one bouncing questions.

Rocky could feel goosebumps run up his back and neck when the wind howled in his ears. It made the tiny hairs on his body stand up from awareness.

He then shook it off to not alarm the younger ones.

"Uh, never mind. It's probably nothing." Rocky said ending with a smile.

"Boy's come inside, dinners ready and it's still a little cold outside and none of you have coats on!" Mrs Douglas voice was heard through the early May evening air.

Everyone sighed in slight annoyance except for Tum Tum who was looking forward to his mothers steak dinner all week.
