Castle Byers was a cute little hut out in the middle of the woods, built with wood planks covered in sheets and blankets.
Will walked ahead and crawled inside, but Kitty stopped just outside the door, looking over all the signs, the sickle still in her hand dangling by her side.
"Kitty, what are you doing?" Will's teeth chattered as he spoke looking up at Kitty through the curtain.
"Give me a sec, I need to figure out the password?"
Will cracked a smile and shook his head. "It doesn't matter, you can come in."
Kitty grinned. "No, no, Kid. Rules are rules. Okay uh... Tolkien?
"No."
"DnD?"
"No..."
"Mirkwood?"
Will shook his head and Kitty wrinkled up her nose in exaggerated frustration. She tapped her chin for a minute before her face lit up.
"Oh, I know! Is it... Will the Wise?" Kitty did a mock magical hand motion as she said it.
Will broke out laughing and Kitty grinned triumphantly.
"Yeah, sure that's it."
Kitty's smile grew and she got on her hands and knees and crawled inside.
Will scooted back to make room and sat down on the makeshift mattress against the back wall. Kitty sat next to him and moved the sickle to her other side, so she could still reach it if needed but was far enough away that neither of them could cut themselves on accident.
Slowly the two of them settled in getting as comfortable as they could in a wooden shack in a freakishly cold hell dimension. Kitty stayed sitting up and Will settled in leaning against her for warmth and yet again she found herself rubbing his back comfortingly.
Will glanced up at her, "Do you really think we're going to get out of here?"
Kitty sighed, "I... don't know."
Will frowned and nodded looking down to the ground.
Kitty shook her head and gave him a squeeze, "Here's what I do know though... Your mom will not stop looking until she finds us. And I know that I will do whatever I have to, to make sure you have the best chance possible to make it back. Whether that's today... or a week, or a month... I can't promise it'll work, but I'll do what I can."
Will nodded into her shirt and hugged her tighter. "Thank you."
Kitty smiled weakly, looking down at him, and hugged back rocking them side to side.
After a while, Kitty started humming to herself quietly.
"What are you humming?"
Kitty smiled, "Gloria, by Laura Branigan. It's my favorite song."
Will looked up at her quizzically and Kitty gasped dramatically.
"You don't know it?"
"No?"
She gasped dramatically again, "It's only the best song ever."
"Doubt it." Will smiled ruefully.
Kitty gave him a mischievous grin and started swaying them back and forth from their place on the ground in a little dance.
Then after humming through part of the intro she started singing. "Gloria, you're always on the run now. Running after somebody, you gotta get him somehow. I think you've got to slow down before you start to blow it. I think you're headed for a breakdown, so be careful not to show it..."
Will feigned annoyance but Kitty just smiled at him as she kept singing.
"You really don't remember, was it something that he said? Are the voices in your head calling, Gloriaaaaaa?" Kitty held out the last note.
"Gloria, don't you think you're fallin'? If everybody wants you, why isn't anybody callin'? You don't have to answer. Leave them hangin' on the line, oh oh oh, calling Gloriaaaa"
Will stifled a laugh and shook his head scrunching up his nose as she shook her shoulders to the invisible beat.
"Gloria, I think they got your number. I think they got the alias, that you've been living under. But you really don't remember, was it something that they said?
Will was full-on laughing now. "Okay, okay, okay. Kitty, you can stop now!"
Kitty just grinned at him finishing out the chorus. "Are the voices in your head calling, Gloriaaaaaa?"
Kitty started laughing with him and they smiled at each other as Kitty slowly stopped swaying them back and forth.
They stopped laughing and Will shook his head. "I still think 'Should I stay or should I go' is better."
"Whaat?" Kitty said dramatically. "You mean my fabulous performance didn't win you over?"
Will shook his head as they settled back down. "No."
"Not even a little?"
"Not even a little," Will confirmed but cracked a smile nonetheless.
"Aw, well then I guess 'Should I stay or should I go' is okay too."
The cold started to set back in and Will shivered. Kitty frowned slightly and started rubbing his back again. "It's okay. You can sleep for a bit if you want to. I'll keep watch."
Will nodded numbly into her shirt and his eyes flickered closed. Kitty smiled down at him and started humming 'Should I stay or should I go' this time, and Kitty could have sworn he smiled as he slept.
