Just my problem (marceline x fem reader)

chapter 21

"yeah Jake believe it or not you're completely right I hate your plan" I grumbled as I faced away from the boy and dog combo, my arms folded angrily and a scowl painted across my face.

Jake sighed an annoyed tone at my hate towards his plan "oh come on (Y/N) it's totally gonna work!" he beamed picking up his usual enthusiasm "me and Finn have been down to the nightosphere like a million times." Finn simply stood behind him energetically nodding his head, almost as if he himself was excited to head to the hell dimension plan or no plan.

I should probably tell you what this absolutely incomprehensible plan was. Jake believes that if I was put under a significant amount of threat in front of Marceline, furthermore by something with significant emotional turmoil that she would have no choice but to jump in and save my life. And thus, she would snap right out of the trance. Oh and his idea of emotional turmoil?

" Jake I refuse to let Hunson Abadeer attempt to crush my head like a grape again!" I shouted belligerently breathing heavily afterwards.

Finn jumped in on the argument "But (Y/N) you're a vampire now you could probably beat his cheeks anyway you just have to act like your in danger" I looked at the boy dumbfounded.

"I CAN BARELY FLOAT LET ALONE DEFEAT THE RULER OF THE NIGHTOSPHERE" Finn simply smirked a little holding back a laugh at my little explosion of anger. He took a step closer to me. His whole aura took on a much more serious tone. It took me back a little, it was so out of character for Finn and the intense nature of the situation now felt odd. Not to an uncomfortable extent but just odd.

"(Y/N)" he said gravely reaching out and taking my hands in his. "you're our friend and so is Marceline. This is important to us. If you seriously think we would jump into anything on a whim then you're crazy"

I felt my body shudder from head to toe. Simultaneously tears began bunching in the corners of my eyes. "I... I" the words escaped me and I settled for just pulling Finn into the tightest hug I'd ever given. but the record for tightest hug would soon be broken. with new found determination I decided to reserve it for Marcy. the first hug where she'd recognise my touch. Recognise my eyes. Recognise my lips...

I released him and I heard his shoes land on the ground with a small thud and realised I'd accidentally picked him up off of the floor during it. Jakes voice invaded our moment as he wormed through both of our legs and quickly expanded into the large version of himself hoisting us up into the air. "not to mention you got the two best bodyguards in all of Ooo" we giggled together as he stomped through the grassland. "Now lets go get some bug milk"

The next day:

"Okay (Y/N) got the bug milk?" Jake chimed cheerily.

"Sure do!" I replied

"And Finn how's that face coming along?" he continued, switching his focus to Finn who was currently sketching an ugly face onto a large rock with a small piece of chalk

"Mmmmmmhm almooooost finished aaaaand DONE!" he finally exclaimed lifting his hands in the air triumphantly

"okay and now for my part" Jake uttered excitedly brandishing a small note in his hand and looking over it studiously: "Maloso vobiscum et cum spiritum! Maloso vobiscum et cum spiritum!" he began chanting ominously and a thin veil of cloud formed above us casting a small shadow on our rocky surroundings and the ugly face on the rock began glowing a pale blue and a gaseous cloud began billowing out.

With a screech like sound the portal roared open and instantly busy pained sounds sounded from within. When I turned to face the boys I was startled to see Jake in a new beastly form and fin wearing a small spikey paper plate mask.

"What the heck is this?" I questioned in a surprised tone.

"disguises" they said with complete innocence in unison paired with a shrug.

I was taken aback before the next set of words could leave my lips. "And where's mine!?" I questioned urgently and they just looked at me silently before walking towards the portal. I silently fumed behind the pair and they must have perceived me through my now stomping feet.

"You're literally a vampire!" they said again in unison and a small shade of pink spread across my cheeks and an embarrassed smirk as I passed through the portal wordlessly. I am a vampire. It was still an alien concept to me. I was part of the land of Ooo completely. I would fit in seamlessly in a hell dimension full of demons and glob knows whatever else. I was the love of the vampire queen. My blush intensified and a quiet smile met my lips as they upturned ever so slightly.

Once my second foot touched down with the floor the portal behind me made a whooping sound and closed up shooting a small puff of air into my back as it did.

"so this is the nightosphere huh?" I said examining the surroundings. Everywhere I looked there was a red hue as if I was wearing red tinted sunglasses. There was large crimson rocks on the floor, in the air, all around us. the texture of said rocks varied but a lot of them shared the same we squishy surface that in some cases was hard to distinguish from human flesh. The thought of it made me shudder not only as it was an awful image but I also wouldn't be surprised if it was the truth in this place. The air was thick and hot like I was in a sauna. I suspected that if I was still human and my body still had a heavy reliance on oxygen intake to function I wouldn't make it too long in this place. with this my mind immediately landed on Finn and I picked up my pace a little to be alongside him.

"How do you even deal with this place?" I asked incredulously and the boy just shrugged.

"I've been down here like a dozen times I guess you just get used to it" he said perfectly happily and his blind optimism gave me reason to hope and my smile returned blocking out the grossness of my surroundings.

We began to reach the peak of a hill we'd been walking up and once the ground began to flatten we gained an open view of the terrain before us,

"there" Finn said extending his hand towards a large palace constructed of jutting black rocks on the horizon.

"th- that's where he is?" I said feeling fear creep into my bones as I peered upon the intimidating structure.

"yep... that's him" Jake replied sternly as he lowered his hands that he currently had shaped like a pair of binoculars. Those same hands scooped up Finn and I rose into the air as we closed the distance between us and the palace surprisingly quickly.

The boys took cover behind a stone wall just before the gates and I began my shaky decent down to the floor waving my hands wildly to try and steady myself but it didn't give me much help and I began plummeting the final few feet towards the floor. my feet hit the floor with a thud sending a jolt of pain up through my ankles and into my calves. I stumbled forward and my hands caught myself against the flat fleshy wall to stop me from face planting.

I was ready to make a funny comment to the boys about not mastering flying yet but the moment my hands made contact with the wall something happened that caught me by surprise. below my fingers beautiful white and pink flowers began sprouting. Grass, leaves and vines began layering a vibrant layer of green amongst the endless red as it slowly engulfed the fleshy wall before me. I swiftly removed my hands and the spread came to an abrupt stop as confusion began to make my brain ache.

"what WAS that" Finn asked incredulously shooting me a look matching my own confusion

"I-I don't know" I uttered as I simply stared down at my palms, hoping to find an answer in the lines and wrinkles of my pale skin. "I don't know"
