Tyson was in shock, still unable to wrap his head around the fact that Percy and I were his siblings. Like by blood in a sense–even though it was by our godly side. He just could not believe it when I explained to him what happened and why he was moving in with us.
Meanwhile, Percy acted like he was being tortured for the same reason Tyson was flabbergasted.
And I...I don't know what I was doing.
I was just kinda there mediating everything. I didn't mind it, honestly. I felt like Tyson was my brother anyway in many ways, even when we were going to Merriwether Prep. The way I had always been his protector–it felt like he was my little brother and I was his big sister.
So yeah, I was fine with the whole situation.
I wasn't bothered by the comments or the weird looks until I caught Percy talking about Tyson behind his back after archery practice.
"He's not my real brother!" He was protesting to some Hermes kids who just snickered at him. Their eyes widened at the sight of me storming up after I heard the comment. But Percy did not notice–continuing on with his rant, "He's more like a half-brother on the monstrous side of the family. Like...a half-brother twice removed, or something."
I will admit–I probably overreacted, but Percy has been a un idiota egoísta y farisaico since we got here and I was kind of done with all of it. (A selfish and self-righteous idiot.)
So what did I do? In my true and brilliant fashion, I promptly lost my mind on him.
"Percy!" I stomped up to him, grabbing his shoulder and dragging him away. He looked horrified I had heard him. But it didn't stop me from snarling at him, "What the actual hell is wrong with you?!"
He glowered at me, his face flushing under the summer sun, "Don't tell me you're mad at me too!!!"
Ignoring the comment, I raised my brows, crossing my arms sharply, "You're the one being a jerk!!"
"Does it not bother you that a monster is our brother?!"
I stared at him, disbelief heavy in my features, "He's not a monster!"
"Yes he is!"
"SHUT UP, PERCY!!!" I shouted at him. I pointed toward Beckendorf's forges, where I had dropped Tyson off several hours earlier. "HE IS YOUR BROTHER WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT, SO GET OVER YOURSELF AND BE NICE TO HIM! WHY DOES HIM BEING RELATED TO YOU CHANGE HOW YOU SEE HIM?!?"
"IT'S NOT THAT BUT HE'S A FREAK OF NATURE! HE'S A CYCLOPS! A MISTAKE MADE BY OUR DAD!!!"
"YEAH, WELL, IN CASE YOU FORGOT, SO AM I!!!"
All the campers who could hear us yelling froze.
Everyone pretty much knew about my reputation with the gods, specifically with Poseidon–I wasn't super quiet about it. It was just a fact about my life that I was going to have to accept and move on with.
Did it suck? Yeah, of course.
But that didn't mean I was going to wallow.
My worth was more than hurtful words someone said to me–even if it was my dad.
Anyway, the favoritism between me and Percy did add to the list of reasons some of my half-blood friends had beef with the gods. It wasn't just Percy and me who had that weird sibling tension of being the favorite child. There was always a favorite in the cabins, but we all did our best to make sure the younger campers didn't notice.
