The child was becoming stronger, her scent more potent.
Monsters watched from the shadows as she grew, living in childhood bliss, unbeknownst to the weight her life brought into the world. But she wouldn't know as such–watching as the seasons changed from spring to summer, the season where fun and friends called her home from the city where she had taken refuge in the autumn and winter.
And in the moments of her being vulnerable and being shielded, the dark creatures knew they could attack and take her to their master.
However, they didn't.
Because the knowledge of who was watching the child stopped them.
He was watching her.
Watching as she bloomed into a reflection of days so far in the past, even the world of mortals seemed to forget the stories that were stepping stones of her history. Her history and stories helped bring balance into the world people know even now.
He was watching her as atonement for those who he had lost.
And he would not lose the song again.
But to accompany him, the monsters knew she was watching the young girl. And she would destroy all of the creatures of the dark before they even had the chance to come within the keen eyesight of the child.
Nothing would touch her.
Nothing.
But the monsters were hungry. Hungry for this child who defied history and all laws of the universe.
So they just waited, watching, scheming, getting ready to end the anomaly–eager to please their master who waited patiently in the dark on their throne of wickedness.
Getting ready to end the child with an ancient song in her soul, the sea in her blood, and war in her bones.
