The first thing I noticed when I woke up, was the strong smell of disinfectant, followed by the blinding lights of a hospital wing, followed by an immense pain in my back.

And then I saw her.

"Oh my god, you're awake!" She gasped and walked over to me, sitting on the edge of the bed and pressing the red button next to my hand, which had been accessorised by a gorgeous IV.

"Who are you? What happened? Where's Michael?" I panicked, and she took my hand in hers gently.

"My name's y/n, I've just been coming to check on you every now and then. You were involved in an accident, you were found two days after the crash by your parents and you were brought here, to Lucia State hospital, not the psychological one, the medical one. You've been in an induced coma for two weeks, but you're safe now," she said gently and I hung onto her every word.

She didn't answer the last question.

"Where's Michael?" I asked again, tears in my eyes.

"I shouldn't be the one to tell you that, sweetheart," she whispered and looked down.

"No. No. He can't have- no." I started sobbing, "No! You're lying!"

"I promise you I'm not." And I could see the sincerity and guilt in her eyes.

I squeezed her hand a little tighter and she opened her arms a little, and I nodded, before she laid next to me and wrapped an arm tentatively around my waist, as she rested her head on mine, and I cried into her.

"You're awake!" A nurse came in and stared at me, "I'll go get the doctor."

"Maybe it's best we give the lady a minute to calm down?" The girl holding me asked, but it sounded more like a demand.

The nurse nodded slightly, before leaving the room again.

"Thank you," I whispered, and she held me a little closer.

A doctor walked in twenty minutes later, followed by my parents.
