Whistling to herself as she climbed the chateau's stairs, Laia abruptly stopped, her senses alert. She scanned the surroundings with a practiced eye, searching for anything that could double as a weapon. The familiar creaks and groans of the old house did nothing to ease the suspicion prickling at her.

Taking a deep breath, she cautiously entered the house, gripping a hefty piece of lumber like a makeshift club. The sight that greeted her was both relieving and perplexing. There was her cousin, John B, methodically tidying up the living area.
