Ben exhaled loudly, hoping sleep would come. His inability to was horribly disturbing. Washing the dishes, doing the chores or even meditating kept him busy for half of the night but not anymore.

Exiting from the kitchen, he started walking into the light corridors of his new-found home.

After years of deciding which if they should move in or not, Rey and Ben settled to. In not even half of a year, their house was built and soon they started calling it a family home. Everything was more peaceful in Naboo than the old Resistance's base on Alan Kloss. Both weren't publicly retired but acted as if.

All of sudden, Ben hears something coming from a room to his left. Frowning, he tries to listen more carefully. Small squeaks, appearing to be tears. He moves forwards the barely opened door and pushed it so gently that it made no sounds. The entry unfastened and let Ben seeing a boy sat on his bed, head crushed into his hands, and body trembling from sobs.

"Hey," Ben murmured warmly, making the child acknowledging his presence. "Nightmare?" The boy nodded, whipping his tears violently, cheeks all red from it.

"Why are you awake?" He asked in his low-pitched voice. He shifted himself, allowing Ben's broad figure to sit besides him. "I have an insomnia." He responded, pinching the boy's nose in order to make him laugh.

"What's an insomnia?"

He grabbed Ben's hand to play with his wedding ring. "It's when you can't fall sleep on your own, or staying asleep for the entire night." The child put the circular object on each of his fingers, amused of it being far too large for his tiny fingers.

"Does nightmares cause insomnia?" The child nuzzled further into Ben's embrace, to the latter's greatest happiness. Years happened where he felt no physical human's touch at all. So he valued that his son took this aim to be tactile when in confidence, from Rey's personality.

"Sometimes."

"Is it what's happening to you?" Ben smiled, fascinated about these constant questions regarding whatever cross his mind. "No, I just can't sleep."

"Is mommy's having insomnias?" The boy muttered, returning the ring to its owner.

Both held an impressive numbers of shared sleepless nights. It did reinforced their relationship, and permitted to deepen their connection more than it could be possible. Unfortunately for them, their boy didn't slept through the night when they could.

"She does."

"I don't like nightmares, it's scary and pointless." The child began chewing the ears of the cuddly toy chosen by Ben at his birth, his eyes fluttering shut. The latter man chuckled, "Rest well, son." And soon left an affectionate kiss into his messy hair.

Heartbroken to sense his son so tormented about things he struggles with since such juvenile age, Ben detached his grip from him.

Another terror handled.

When Rey announced she was expecting, he was at his happiest. He more than once thought he would be a terrible father, based on how his own acted. But the more he spent time with his child, the more he felt as if this role was destined to him.

He always is the first one to volunteer when he is awoken by his nightmares. Was the first to get up within all of these instants he didn't sleep through night. Even the few tantrums he dared to make them experiencing, pushed Ben to laugh after reprimanding him. But most of all, he secretly rejoiced to see him growing up besides the woman he always loved.

"Dad?"

Being there for him as either of their respective parents weren't was their first priority. Both know the ease of sudden death, menaces and often ruminate about it. They're afraid that the future won't allow them much time with their child. So they are trying to enjoy every little moments, even bad ones.

In the end, they succeeded to form a family despite the phantoms of both pasts. "Yes?"

"Can I sleep with you and mommy tonight?" Regardless his exhaustion, the little boy could easily drift back into the dread of the crepuscular. "Just tonight." And Ben refused to pass another one of those nights, where he and Rey was being woken up by the traumatized screams of their child.

"Of course," The once scarred-man didn't await the puppy-dogs eyes he would have certainly yield to, to carry him. The boy yawned before wrapping his small arms around Ben's collar, and resting his head on his robust chest. The distance separating the two bedrooms were as short as its own word. But seemed to be enough for him to doze off.

Pushing the door open with the Force, Ben entered the area plunged into darkness. His glance immediately went to where Rey was lying profoundly asleep.

Nights were complicated these times. Rey still was very much involved into her role within the Resistance. Being a mother didn't pushed her to retirement or abandoning her colleagues which she all defined as friends. She works on some plans here and there when she haves the opportunity to, but wants to maintain equilibrium within her family without giving up her duties as a Jedi.

Rey certainly did not leaded the Resistance, but was much solicited for conferences or gathering. An hologram was fairly enough for the few juvenile menaces coursing through the galaxy. And having suffered during his entire childhood from Han and Leia's constant absences, Ben was much relieved of this possibility.

With extreme delicacy, Ben poses the child close to a somnolent Rey. His first reflex is to nuzzle at her side, burying his head into her neck. She embraced her son's back, with what Ben would call her maternal instincts. He pulled the pale sheets up on his wife and child, smiling at this adorable view.
