"But I don't want to go to the ball (Name)! It won't be fun and I'll have to wear a frilly gown with ribbons and stuff like that!"

(Name) sighed as she combed through her (your h/c) hair. "But Mindy, you might actually have fun for once if you tried to." (Name) got up from the floor and switched places with Mindy as she began to brush through (Name)'s hair. "You may never know."

Mindy stopped brushing for a moment and crossed her arms over her chest. "And have you ever had fun while taking my place any other time?" (Name) started to object, but stopped knowing you couldn't disagree. "Exactly." Mindy continued brushing (Name)'s (h/c) hair.

"Let me guess, you want me to take your place for this again?" Mindy nodded slightly. "At this rate, there's no way you'll grow out of your tomboyish phase."

Mindy smiled happily. "That's right!" Then you two laughed and stayed together until night came along and you both drifted off to sleep.

The next day, the day of the ball, (Name) had traded places with Mindy and was dressed in, as Mindy said, a frilly gown with ribbons. Of course she always tolerated things like this so her best friend wouldn't have to. She didn't mind as long as Mindy was happy.

They never got caught anyway.

This ball didn't seem any didn't seem any different than the last one that was held not too long ago. Why did this castle have so many balls anyway? There didn't seem to be any sense in it all.

Oh well. Nothing much to do now except tolerate everything until the end of the night.

And that's what she did. Until later in the night that is.

Around 11:00, a guard came rushing into the ballroom, looking like he got into a fight and lost. "I-intruders! Thieves! Pirates! Everyone get out of the castle now!"

(Name)'s eyes widened in shock as the whole ballroom exploded into chaos. She dodged running ball guests to search for a way out. She had to get to Mindy and make sure she was safe.

Most of the guests stopped in their tracks and ran another way, and she didn't see why until most of them had cleared away from the source of their fears.

A group of men, some holding guns or swords, was rushing into the ballroom. There was one man in the back holding a bag, most likely filled with stolen treasure. One of them looked in (Name)'s direction and a satisfied smirk appeared on his face. "There's the princess, go get her," he ordered.

(Name) started panicking and looking for an exit. She saw a hallway to the left of her and ran as fast as she could to get away.

She ran into an empty room and locked the door behind her, letting out a sigh of relief. She had gotten away from them.

Or so she thought.

Before (Name) could turn around, her mouth had been covered by a piece of cloth and her hands were pinned and tied securely behind her back. She tried to yell out for help, but no one could hear her through the gag.

She shivered feeling warm breath down her neck, sending chills down her spine. "You're coming with us princess. You'll bring in some good money," said a voice coming from the man holding her captive. He flung her over his shoulder and climbed out through the window and back to the ship the pirates arrived in.

(Name) struggled against the ropes and the man holding her with all her might but to no avail. The man carried her into a small cabin on the ship and set her down on the floor and tied her ankles. She shivered, though slightly grateful she had taken Mindy's place tonight so she would be safe.

The man lowered the gag from (Name)'s mouth. In that instant, she tried to call out for help, but it was silenced by a strange liquid passing through her lips and running down her throat. Her vision blurred and whatever she was trying to say came out slurry and incomprehensible. She felt dizzy, and before she knew what hit her, she fell into unconsciousness onto the floor of the cabin.
