After two or three days, I was about to take the keys to my new house as the payment procedure was accomplished. It was my first time after being a major to move into a house all alone and that too with a stranger. I was getting dressed up when I randomly picked up my phone and started to scroll. And whew! I came across a horoscopic site that predicts a person's near future. The site suggested my horoscopic sign to take over a yellow-coloured attire that day. It described that this colour would bring up a bit of unforeseen luck that would last for my lifetime.
After going through the content, I was a bit suspicious of the site as to how it could predict something in such a precise manner. I was curious to test it, and was more intended to prove it inaccurate (It's a human tendency to prove others wrong, it isn't an achievement but is generally categorised as oddly satisfying). After getting into white jeans underneath a yellow kurta and adding a yellow scrunchie to my hair (for extra luck). Standing in front of my twin, a reflection through a silvered glass.
With the constant raising of my eyebrows,
I said, "Luck ahh? Let's see."
On reaching the apartment, I took a deep breath and set foot inside the main entrance of it. On the extreme left was the reception of the apartment, from where I had to pick up my keys. I went straight there,
And said, "Hey, I am Sanaina and I have booked a shared flat here. Can I get my keys?"
One of the receptionists asked me to take a seat and wait for a while till the previous tenant checked out. I headed north and took my seat beside a lady in the yellow top. We were facing backwards to the reception. Now, let's emphasise the luck factor, as I wore that yellow attire for a purpose. The receptionist handed keys to a keeper and commanded him to hand them over to the lady in yellow. I came late, so I sat on a seat near the reception as all the others were occupied.
The keys had to be handed over to the lady sitting next to me but as we had the same shades on our outfits, he gave them to me. As I wasn't aware of it, I took the keys. And the receptionist was so engrossed in her work that she didn't take a moment to look up to verify if the keys were given to the respective owner. After receiving the keys, I went in and checked my flat which was numbered 1011. Moving into a house of your own isn't a piece of the pie and I realised it that day, as I had to purchase some necessities for the house that weren't preinstalled.
After the tiresome day, I finally banged on the door. I think I did it a bit hard as I heard something hit the ground hard. I ran out of patience, so I just ignored it. The number board of the flat landed on the floor upside down which read 1101 instead of 1011. The slight change in the order of these numbers resulted in a major turnover in my life. On the arrival of the fourth day, in the early hours of the day, I was sleeping on the sofa; At some moment I heard some sort of noise at my doorstep, but I ignored it and started to snore again.
After a moment or two, I felt that someone had placed their palm on my cheek as if a person was trying to wake me up. I realised that I was all alone in the house, so who must be the person who placed his/her palm on my cheeks? At once, I opened my eyes, I saw a handsome guy just in front of me. Just imagine that in the morning when you get up and suddenly see a beautiful sort of thing, you will be awestruck. The same condition applied to me.
But I had to show my arrogance as the guy's good looks when kept aside, annoyingly he woke me up in the middle of my slumber. Half eye closed,
I asked him with a weird tone, "Hey, hello, who are you?"
He smiled at me, and said, "Hello young lady, I am Olexander Wagner, your roommate. I need the keys to my room. The receptionist said that my keys are with you. So, would you please...?"
I handed it out to him and slipped into my slumber again.
I finally woke up, got ready in a moment and went on my way to the university. I didn't check for my roommate as I was in a hurry to leave. It was my first day at the university, and I was scared of being ragged. I went into the university like a disciplined child, the idealised version of such a student is easy to imagine, i.e ironed clothes tucked in, hair combed and tied to plaits and an introvert. But I am sorry to prove your imagination wrong about me, as I just dressed up casually for the first day at my university. And I went straight into the classroom, sitting on one of the corner benches. Almost half the class was busy uploading their story on Instagram.
Out of boredom, I just laid my head on the bench. As I did it, I could observe the classroom from a different perspective and could hear loud sounds as my ears rested on the bench and sounds travel in solids. In an instant, I felt as if someone patted my shoulder. As I turned around, I didn't see anyone. A voice called out from the other side,
She said, "Hi. I am Nuria"
I turned around and said, "Hey Hi!! I'm Sanaina ."
D-days begin with introductions. After the formal introduction, we shared the same feeling of having the least interest in the classroom.
After the class was over, I went to have my meal in the canteen. Through the small window in the canteen, I peeped out what was happening outside. All of a sudden, I heard a scream, so I turned around and witnessed the scene. There was a huge crowd that circled a boy gang as usual, and they were ragging a girl. As I observed, it was none other than Nuria. They ragged her so badly that she had tears in her eyes. I was so offended by the scene that I at once stood up and soon became a part of the scene. After I reached out there, it slipped out of my mind that I was afraid of being ragged.
At first, I softly spoke to one of the boys there, "See, you all have taken great fun of her, it's enough. Come with me, Nuria."
I really can't show them the zenith of my fear at that moment.
One of the boys came in front of me and said, "Hey, we aren't done yet."
Coming forward, he whispered in my ear, "Do you know who I am? And do you even know my name?"
I stood there still, took a breath and boldly looked into his eyes,
I said, "Aren't you aware of it yourself?"
After a moment,
I continued, "I don't care, you made a mistake and I am telling you about it."
He came close, gave a crooked smile and said, "Oh! You will get to know about your mistake soon."
Then at once, from somewhere Olexander came and stood in front of me and
said, "Hey lad, cool down, let us take a place and settle it calmly."
I was surprised to see the boy's expression, he controlled his anger and calmed himself. After that scene, I came to know that Olexander was quite popular among the students at the university.
On the way back home we exchanged our views about university students, our apartment etc.
He asked me, "Where was that from? Weren't you afraid? Anyways, that was impressive."
I smiled and then broke out laughing as I wasn't able to resist it any longer.
I said, "I was too scared, but I couldn't express it and thank god I didn't express it or else I would be the laughingstock of the university."
For that, he just flashed a smile at me.
After reaching home, I freshened up and till that time he threw his bag in his room and went away. He was back home late at night and in the morning back to university. I was a bit amazed by his continual routine as it was repeated for the upcoming days for about a week. I thought that something was fishy, so I planned to follow him and check it out someday.
