So I felt bad about leaving out a couple of ships and swoon-worthy moments from the last chapter. So to all our lovers of teen romance, this chapter is for you. xoxo
Valentine Extra
"Before the party starts, I want to make an announcement." Gabby said with a microphone. Her classmates looked at her irritatedly but she ignored them. "This might be an only seniors party but abeg make una respect yourselves. Let's avoid misbehaving please." She concluded before handing the microphone to the DJ.
"Let's the seniors party begin!!" The DJ announced and the teenagers cheered. The lights were changed to colourful ones and the sound of the music was doubled.
Sam took a seat beside Joy who already looked uncomfortable. She looked at her classmates who were all over the place dancing and wondered what they found enjoyable about loud music and noise.
"Hey, do you want to dance?" Sam asked. Joy, who just noticed his presence, shook her head immediately. He probably mistook her stare as longing. Sam looked at the fair skinned girl and took out the small box in his pocket. He kept it beside her hand and she looked up at him in confusion.
"Happy Valentine's day." He looked away nervously when the girl didn't say anything.
"Why are you being nice to me?" Joy asked instead.
"Can't I be nice to you?" Sam asked overwhelmed.
"We are not even friends. The last time we held a conversation was last year so why are you being nice to me all of a sudden?" She asked plainly.
Sam took a deep breath and chose his words carefully. "Ever since last year, I really wanted to be friends with you or more but I'm not dumb enough not to know you'll reject me straight up so let's be friends, just friends." He had a hopeful look on his face but Joy was surprised.
"I prefer being alone." Joy replied and Sam shook his head.
"Come on.. what about crossword puzzle buddies? I noticed you play them a lot." He pressed on and she laughed. Sam stared in awe as she laughed genuinely for the first time. The dimples he didn't knew existed graced her face and he wondered why she's been hiding it.
"We'll see about that." She agreed and Sam fist bumped into the air.
"Yes!" He cheered, "Now let's celebrate our new friendship with a dance." He said before dragging her to the dancefloor ignoring her protest.
Tobe looked wearily at Natasha as she talked with Pasim beside the refreshments table. He balled his fists in anger and walked up to them.
"Let's talk." He took her hand and led the both of them to the balcony. "Natasha.." he called but Natasha crossed her hands across her chest and looked away.
"You said you were thirsty so I went to get water for you. My mind was clouded with you and you alone. That's why I barely noticed the girl that gave me that gift. Heck, I don't even remember her face." He explained. Natasha had a little remorse on her face.
"I -"
"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have taken it at all." Tobe apologized, cutting her off.
"I'm sorry I overreacted." Natasha said and the boy smiled. He pulled her into a hug happily. Natasha pulled back slightly and pecked his cheek. Tobe pulled back completely with a cheeky smile on his face. He leaned back down and pecked her lips.
"King and queen of funny business." Gabby said as she passed by the balcony. Natasha gasped and hid her face in Tobe's chest.
"Amebo." Tobe laughed. He took out a golden chain with a key as the pendant from his pocket and clipped it around Natasha's neck. "Happy one year Nat." He said as he took out his matching necklace that was hidden underneath his shirt. His own had a lock as the pendant.
"Aww thanks. I'm not done with the gift I wanted to give you." She pouted as she admired the chain on her neck.
"Any time you are ready." He assured and she grinned.
The two walked back into the party but Tobe's joy was short lived as he accidentally bumped into someone.
"I'm sorry." He quickly apologized before realizing who it was. Damien shifted the plastic cup he was holding away from his body just in time as some of the contents spilled on the ground.
"Watch it." He spat.
"I've already apologized." Tobe replied and Damien rolled his eyes.
"Let's just go." Kelvin said dragging his friend out of the scene before anything happens.
"Did you get the stuff ready?" Damien asked his friend and the latter nodded happily.
"It's all set." He replied. As they rushed down the stairs, Ugochi met them at the entrance. She had her hands behind her back with a small smile on her face.
"Can I talk to you?" She asked nodding towards Damien's direction. Kelvin tried to hold himself from laughing but he was loosing badly. He walked towards the empty makeshift photo stand and waited for his friend. He knew it'll be quick, a minute or two.
"What's up?" Damien asked impatiently as he looked at his watch and then at his best friend who grinned at him.
"So, I was going to keep quiet about the whole thing and graduate but it keeps bugging me so I decided to just face it head on." She started. Damien sighed and rubbed his face. He knew where all this was going and he didn't like it one bit. "I like you Damien. Like I really like you. Since the beginning of senior class." She let out a breath like she's just moved a heavy mountain. She decided to look up at the boy she was talking to instead of her nails.
"Honestly, I don't see you as anyone more than a classmate. Besides, I don't believe in teenage relationship. To me, it's just stupid so I don't involve myself with stuff like that." Every word he said felt like a needle in the girl's heart yet she kept her head up. "I hope you don't mind but I really have to go." He added looking at his wristwatch.
"Wait.." Ugochi held him back but he took his hand out of her grasp. "Can you just take this instead?" She asked holding up a well wrapped box. She felt tears well up in her eyes but she tried to hold it in.
"I'm sorry." He said before jogging off with Kelvin by his side. Ugochi sank to the ground as she let her tears flow freely. Part of her mocked herself for confessing to him but the other part consoled her.
"That was harsh." Kelvin said to his friend as they arrived at their destination.
"There's no two ways about it." His friend replied.
"Let's set these bad boys up." Kelvin grinned as they arranged the fireworks hidden behind the building.
"That Bartho is amazing." Damien said, referring to the gateman who helped them buy the fireworks.
"Abi o." Kelvin replied as they looked at each other knowingly. "Happy valentine mate." He said as they lit the fireworks up and ran out.
The senior students of Willow Heights were dumbfounded when they heard the sound of fireworks inside their school. They all rushed to the balcony and stared in amazement and pure joy.
"How did they get their hands on fireworks?" Natasha asked, knowing fully well the people that bought the fireworks.
"Once it's Damien and Kelvin, anything is possible." Nini replied with a grin on her face.
"Happy Valentine's day people!" Gabby suddenly yelled as the fireworks clouded the sky and her classmates cheered. They all knew that the hostel mistress would be up soon and she'll surely end the party but they knew this year was special, better than all others.
