chapter 42: "his body was found in the river"

I stare at Heather, not computing, like im a bad computer. "a body." i repeat slowly like a sloth. what do you mean"

she sighs like im the dummest person alive or something "i mean like a dead body, gramarly."

panic erupts in my body like a volcano of panic. i think of my mom, whos been missing for days now. and of satans mom who also is nowher to be found. what if-

I clear my throat "do you know who it is? the body, i mean"

heather looks down at her phone "aparently its someone who went to this school"

i blink, relief hitting me like a truck. then guilt hits me like another truck, because now i am guilty that i am releived. "um, do you know who?"

She shrugs "i dont know, some guy called kai?"

I freeze. drop my metal scraper on the floor, and it hits the groun with a loud cling clang like santa's christmas bells. my heart also drops into my stomak

"i have to go" i say, feeling weird and disconected from my body. the world seems tilted and confusing now.

Heather stare at me like im crazy "are you being serious right now? what do you think mr brown is going to do next if we dont do this?"

"im sure youl be fine" i murmur and leave down the hallway. Head spinning, i dont pay atention to my suroundings, nearly colliding with a teacher.

As soon as im out the bilding, my phone starts buzzing. its noah, and i pick up

"kai" i say imediately in a hoarse voice

Noah's quiet for a moment. "you heard."

i let out a long breth "what happened?"

Noah sighs "no one knows. his body wras found in the river"

I swallow. "how- how'd he die?"

"he was most likely dead before he ended up in the river. he was shot"

"shot" i echo, head swimming like a swimmer. "i dont understand noah. he- i-

"grammarly" says Noah quietly "its ok to have mixed feelings. the guy did drug and kidnap you"

I sit down on a bench, needing to steady myself. "things have just goten so out of hand" i whisper "so much has happened. and now this? i just can't beleive that kai is..."

i guess now he relly is liek a ghost......

I feel like i'm going to puke. "gotta go noah" i mutter before hanging up.

I sit there for a while, staring blankly into space.

Eventually, with a heavy sigh, i heave myself up and walk over to Tina's car. She has been outside the school all day to keep an eye on me.

"hey you ok there kiddo?" she asks, frowning at me.

I get in the car. "someone i know just died" i say quietly

"oh honey" says Tina, pulling me in for a tight hug.

"It wasn't an acident Tina" i whisper into her hair "he was shot"

She hugs me even harder. "i'm sorry grammarly" she murmurs

I blink and tears start to fall from my sparkling blue orbs . "he made a lot of mistakes, tina. " i say "but he was my friend, and now he's gone"

Tina just strokes my hair like im cat, comforting me.
