A month has passed since they got thrown out of their home and spent most days wandering the streets looking for food or just seeking for money to survive, they had found a shelter where they could stay and Xever is most of the time out on the streets pickpocketing strangers and if he got lucky, rich tourists and business men
He always told Luna not to leave their shelter and to be careful with the amount of food and drink they managed to get, that wasn't very hard for her, she wasn't the type of child to seek problems with others and mostly stayed quiet in the shelter playing with her stuffed bunny or just taking a nap
One day, Xever was out pickpocketing while Luna stayed at their shelter so she wouldn't possibly get caught if she went along with him, she also choose to stay there as for many reasons. Like Xever telling her not to trust, talk or take anything from strangers and the possibilities of bad people seeing her as an easy target
Luna was napping under the shadow covered with Xever's jacket with her bunny in her arms, she woke up to the sound of a branch snapping and sat upright
"Hello?" She automatically called out, but it was quiet
She grew uncomfortable as she huddled herself into the jacket and deeply inhaled the scent of her stuffed bunny to calm herself down, it smelled a little like strawberry and pineapple, she always used to use her mother's perfume to make her stuffed animal smell good and it comforted her
She stared at the entrance of their shelter and saw a shadow coming her way, she hid herself in the jacket and braced herself for what was possible gonna come towards her, until she heard a familiar voice speaking up
"Lulu?"
She looked up and saw Xever standing there with a few bruises and a bag filled with enough food for at least a week and huge water bottles, her face immediately lit up with joy and held up her bunny
"Xever, you're back!" She cheered happily as Xever chuckled and sat next to her on the mattress that was on the ground and placed the food and water on a small table
"And look what I brought with me" Xever smiled as he took out a pão de queijo and handed it over to her, Luna took one of them and then looked at Xever's arm covered with bruises and could now clearly see his lip bleeding
"What happened to you?" Luna asked as she took a bite out of the cheese bread and Xever just rubbed her head while chucking down a water bottle
"That big meanie from the bakery almost caught me"
Luna just pouted and crossed her arms, she wished she had the courage to go to that bakery and tell that man to stay away from her big brother, but she knows that'll probably go wrong and Xever doesn't allow that
He had thought about giving Luna up for a foster family and give her a normal life, but he has heard many horror stories from his best friend about abusive foster homes and that there's always a possibility that it might be just as bad as their old home or even worse
Luckily, he came across his old best friend when he was pickpocketing some old lady and brought him with him, he was only worried about how Luna would react to that. He knew she wasn't fond of strangers, but he also thought she needed some company when she was alone, as well as a supervisor. She just couldn't be left unsupervised
"Hey, Sis, have you ever wanted a friend besides me and that bunny?" Xever asked as he pointed at himself and then at his sister's stuffed bunny
"Yes, but you said I'm not allowed to talk to strangers" Luna nodded
"I was just about to ask you if you'd like my best friend staying here, I'm sure you'll like him" Xever said as Luna's eyes lit up with curiosity and excitement
