Loneliness Spreader

Do you know what it feels like to be the only person alive? I don't, but I bet it wouldn't feel too good. What if that lonely feeling was a person and every time you were near him you would feel it too...

"Girlfriend, you have no recollection of last night because you were drunk! That's because you're the life of the party." Said Josh. Him and Carpa are on their "morning after a party" stroll down main street.

"I'm not the life of the party, Josh. I just drink to feel like I'm the life of the party!" Chuckled Carpa.

A car a few feet away starts barreling towards the two and crashes into a light pole. This car was driving normally only a minute prior.

"That almost hit us, Josh!"

"What made this lunatic try to hit us like that?!" Josh looks over at Carpa to see her crying. "What's wrong? We're alive dammit."

"What does it matter if I'm alive when I have no one." She hugs Josh tighter than she ever has before. "I'm sorry I'm a bad friend."

Suddenly Josh feels lost too. "I would have nothing if I didn't have you." Tears start escaping his eyes as well. Then he spots a guy in a gray hoodie walking past. The man gives a gentle wave and mouths the words "I'm sorry." Then he starts crying as well. "Don't leave!"

"I won't leave you, Josh!"

The man stops and points to his chest and mouths "me?"

Josh nods his head and lets one of his arms open wide for the man to join their hug.

The man's tears turn into happy ones as he joins their hug. "I need more nice people like you in this world."

"I don't know who the other person hugging me is, but please don't leave me!" Said Carpa.

"Sorry, I'm Leon. I think I'm the reason you're crying, guys." He lets go and kneels on the ground.

Josh and Carpa kneel down too. "How can that be true?"

"It's my curse. I'm cursed to always feel like the only one alive."

"That's awful!" Said Carpa.

"But part of the curse is that anyone around me feels the same. At least until they leave."

"I don't know you, but if you're being honest, I think it's worth the risk to get to know you better." Said Josh with a semi-blush. He looks at the ground while waiting to hear Leon's response.

"That's really sweet. I hate this curse. I don't want anyone to have to feel how I feel, but every time I leave my house I risk it all over again." Leon starts crying again and points at the wrecked car. "I think I'm the reason that man killed himself. It's all my fault!" He is bawling now.

"Leon, this is NOT your fault." Said Josh.

"Clearly that person wasn't stable to begin with." Said Carpa.

"Well, we can't know for sure if you were even close enough to that car. That's not your fault. This was planned."

"I want to believe you..."

"Then believe me." Said Josh while setting his hand on Leon's back and gently patting him.

"Thank you. You two make this pain a little more bearable."
