We had spent the rest of the day swimming in the ocean, or sunbathing in the beach, it was weird to see the stern Mafia leader allowing me to see the 'real' him, rather than the cold exterior he would normally display. However, as the evening continued, and dinner was eaten he reverted back to the normal him.
He had swapped the beach attire for his all-black suit once more and had locked himself in the office room to take phone calls. Although he was speaking in Italian, I could gather just from the tone of his voice that he was not happy, he was practically yelling down the phone. I was trying to occupy myself by watching television however almost everything was in Greek which made sense considering we are on holiday. Part of me wanted to go to sleep, however I know that as soon as my head hits that pillow, and another day arrives he will back to normal rude Giovanni.
I must have fallen asleep however, as when I awoke, I was still in the same position on the sofa. There was no noise, the house was silent and even the ocean sounded quieter than what it had been the other night. I decided to investigate where Giovanni was however after going through almost every single room in the house, he was nowhere to be found.
I wondered if he had decided to go for an early morning swim, but I knew that that was not in his character. I also don't have a phone to call or locate him from, so I was stuck in the house by myself until he returned. I wonder if he has just left me in the house, whilst he returns home that's one way to get rid of me.
The day seemed to drag out, and there was still no sign of Giovanni at 12 or at 2, I gave up my hopes that he might return home after only a few hours of waiting. I had eaten some breakfast, and gotten myself dressed and ready for the day, before deciding that I was going to go for a walk of the small area that we are in.
I knew that I would most likely get in trouble by Giovanni for wondering of, in fact he would probably think that I have tried to run away once again. But I am tired of constantly running away from my problems, if he wants this marriage that is fine, but I will be leaving after my baby reaches the age of one.
The village closest to us was a thirty-minute walk, there are no pathways to follow instead walking on the side of the road was the closest thing you are going to get to a pavement. But very rarely do cars ever go passed, so I knew that I was not in any danger of being hit.
The village is rather small, there are a few little local shops, that are selling mainly decorative plates and cups or hand painted pictures of the ocean. Further down in the village there is small grocery shop that sells fresh fruits or doughnuts. I had picked up a note that Giovanni had left on the side, so I had some money, and the doughnuts did look really good, plus I haven't eaten breakfast yet and I can tell baby is not happy by that.
Picking out the two best doughnuts, of course the ones that are covered in a thick layer of chocolate, I headed towards the man that owned this place in order to pay. He took one look at me before looking away, only to look back at me a second time in what looked to be shocked. I ignored this however and handed over the doughnuts before giving him the small amount of money I had, it was enough to cover the food, and he tried to give me change however I told him to keep it.
As I continued eating and looking around the shops, I noticed that I was getting a few odd stares, I thought it was because I was most likely the only English person that has visited this village in a while considering it is in the middle of nowhere, but other people had started whispering whilst still looking at me, making me feel rather self-conscious.
To try and escape the individuals out on the street I headed inside one of the shops that was selling handmade home decor. Some of the most beautiful cups and plates were on display, however what caught my eye was a painting, it was blue with flowers dotted all over the place and there was just something about it. When I took a closer look, I realised the large price tag that was attached and reminded myself that I have no money. I would have to try and drag Giovanni down to the village to buy it for me, I know that it would look perfect in the nursery.
