Jenny looked up from her files as Jethro came back into her office with bags from the local Chinese place. "Woah, how much did we order?" She asked through a laugh as she stood up to help him. "A lot more than we need." Was all he said as he put the bags on her coffee table as she walked over to her mini bar and got a bottle of unopened bourbon and two tumblers. She poured them both a generous amount of the amber liquid and gave it to him before she sat down at her coffee table, looking at the Chinese food he had laid out on two plates, along with silverware.
"I'm afraid to ask this: but did the silverware come with the food?" She asked, smiling when she heard him laugh. They eat their dinner in silence, occasionally trading stories when they were both a mentor and mentee, or a pair of lovers who thought that nothing could rip them apart. After swallowing a mouthful of her black bean pork, she started thumbing through the small stack of files they'd gathered earlier in the day after he had sent the team home.
"You think we'd actually find him?" Gibbs asked after he ate his spring rolls. Jenny looked up at him, and sighed. "Truthfully? I don't know but we have to try to find him for Tony's sake." Jenny said as she passed him a few files, as he took the files out of her hand, Jenny felt the electricity run up her body again. "You're right, Jen, we have to try, but I promised Tony that he'd witness me slapping cuffs on Senior." Gibbs told her as he continued to read on Tony's 'father.' Jenny didn't say anything as she moved to sit beside Jethro, her head on his shoulder as she read the words on the pages in front of her.
"There's nothing here!" Jethro snarled as he threw the last file that they'd found on Tony's father down by his feet. Jenny stood up and gathered up the plates and empty containers and stacked the plates in her coffee table and threw the containers in the trash before she made her way back to her couch and sat down next to him
"We'll find him, Jethro." Jenny whispered as she took his hand in hers. Jethro looked at his former mentee, former lover and now boss. "What if we don't find him, Jen? Then what? You think what happened with DiNozzo today was just a one time thing? We were lucky today but that all it was: pure luck that we got him before he really hurt the Commander. We might not be so lucky next time because there will be a next time, Jen." Jenny understood what Jethro was saying, she really did.
"Then we'd better make sure it doesn't happen again, there's got to be something we've missed. Hand me a file." She told her employee who did what she asked with no questions asked.
After nearly three nights rereading the files on Tony's father, sleepless nights in her office, and two bottles of bourbon and one bottle of wine, Jenny and Jethro finally found Anthony DiNozzo Senior. They walked out of Jenny's office to the bullpen where Jethro's team were crowded around Tony's desk, laughing and eating takeout. Tony was throwing his egg fried rice at Kate who was retaliating with her peas.
"Katie, you're going down!" Tony mock yelled. Jenny and Jethro watched them act like children.
"DiNozzo, stop throwing rice at Kate. Kate, don't retaliate." Jethro said as he and Jenny made their presence known. Tony and Kate stopped their food war and poured.
"GIBBS!" They shouted as Tony wrapped his arms around his surrogate sister. Jethro just smiled as he looked at DiNozzo.
"Gear up, we've got a bastard to arrest." They all watched as Tong released Kate and grabbed his gear, the keys and ran to the elevator.
"Are we arresting the Bastard or not?!" Tony complained.
