Chapter 4: Revealing the truth (part one)

As soon as she went down stairs she saw that Reece was waiting for her in the living room as she knew that he needed his question's answered. "Are you sure you want to know the truth about what to me in the past before we knew each other?" Brooke asked her step-brother. Reece gladly nodded as Brooke walked up to the couch to show Reece an old picture that read "The Surge Squad: An Undefeated Team!" "Whoa how long have you had this?" Reece, asked Brooke. She replied with a simple answer such as like "More than a few years" but he knew that she had the picture for more than a two or three years or so. But what she told him next was really shocking as she pointed to the group leader I the middle of the picture.

"Does that face ring any bells to you Reece?" Brooke asked Reece as she pointed to the face in the middle of the photo. When Reece saw the face he was completely shocked at how much his step-sister kept from him. "That's you in the middle? You were Ice Warrior?" Reece asked Brooke. But what she showed him next was really the biggest shock to him. As Brooke pulled out a piece of her hair she told him this. "I've always been Ice Warrior, but then one day I almost lost my life during one of our fights." As she told the story of the fight all Reece could do is sit in utter silence and shock at what his step-sister kept from him. "So during the aftermath of the fight you lost one of your super abilities?" Reece asked her. She nodded her head and then she said that the reasons he made those tubes was that she could maybe gain that back, but it was no use for her safety and for the squad's safety she called for a disbandment of the team and the other heroes agreed and the surge squad went their separate ways and they haven't fought against crime together in years.

"So why don't the others know about this yet?" Reece asked Brooke, but all she did was try not to be too scared to explain the truth to Reece. Even though he knew her since they were kids or over two years ago. "Because during our last battle we fought so hard but during one of the last strikes the villain had she used it and knocked me to the ground." Brooke told Reece as she tried to keep her tears at bay.

Reece saw that the battle had taken its toll on step-sister, as Brookes story came to a close Reece tried to comfort by giving her a hug. "Don't worry your safe no one will hurt you I promise." Reece told his sister. Then Brooke noticed that the body heat that was coming from him was starting to fade. "wait did you just bring your body temperature down right now?" Brooke asked her step-brother. All Reece could do was make sure that the one person that meant the world to him was safe. However, when Brooke asked him the question again Reece started to wonder if that was the way to control his powers by really concentrating really hard on using or not using them.

"So what does that mean for the whole team then?" Reece asked Brooklyn before she gave him a look as if to say that the team needs to meetup after school at the training center right after the last bell. "And this time there is someone very special I want you to meet." Brooklyn said to her brother as she quickly ran upstairs to her room to pick up her phone to call an old friend of hers.

The next day the three boys met up during their English class to talk about what Reece's sister or rather step-sister meant by that she had someone that the boys had to meet. "I'm not sure, but hopefully it's someone who can helps us with the whole control thing." Leo began to say as the teacher began to stand up in front of the class. "I hope you boys are talking about something relating to the project and the test coming up boys." Their teacher said as she began to talk to the whole class. Keon replied that they were and that they were discussing where they would work on the project.

"thanks for that I really hate being put on the spot by a teacher like that." Reece told Keon and Leo as they continued to wonder who Brooke knew that could help them with their training.

Meanwhile back at the lab a mysterious figure steeped out of the elevator and made his way towards Brooke. "You called?" the stranger said as he approached Brooke. "Yeah there are a few new heroes that may need our help to work as a team." Brooke said as she and the stranger gave each other a look of understanding.
