"How was training?" I asked sitting opposite Chilly at Cobham's cafeteria. He looked up from his food and gave me a warm smile when he realised it was me. Throughout the months I've worked around Chelsea, I had grown quite close to a lot of the players, specifically Chilwell and Pulisic. I was thankful to have them as my friends, especially after the events that happened a few weeks ago. They're unaware of my humiliating rejection or anything Mason related. Still, they sensed something was wrong and managed to comfort me the past week which caused us to grow closer.
"Same old, same old," he replies mixing his food, "oh but oh my god," he perked up about to tell me his story before he interrupted himself by bursting into a fit of laughter. The joyous noise caused the corners of my lips to curl up into a bright smile. He takes a few short breaths to compose himself but then falls into his frantic laughs again. I waited with an anticipating smile on my face, eager to know what was so funny, "we were trying to do drills when the grass was still wet right," he said a few seconds after, wiping a tear. A glint of excitement started to build up in my chest, anticipating what was so funny, "and Mason slipped into Reece and they both fe-" he couldn't finish his sentence as he cracked into his laughing fit again. I could feel my smile begin to slowly drop down to a frown at the mention of Mason's name. Chilly fortunately was too caught up in his laughter to notice my sudden change in mood and I bit down on my lip to stop my lips from quivering.
I subconsciously diverted my eyes out the window to where the first team was training. My eyes instinctively found Mason passing the ball to his other teammates and it felt like a stab in the heart. I've tried my best to avoid him whenever I had to come and work for Chelsea, but unfortunately, the only way to avoid someone is to know exactly where they are at all times. So even though I never saw him face to face, he was still running through my mind making me feel like I'm in a constant agonising state of heartbreak.
Everyone knows the five stages of grief, Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression and Acceptance. I went through it all the past few weeks, and it felt like constant torture. I had just recently gotten out of the depression stage, now accepting everything that's happened— I mean, I have to. I need to get over him because no matter how much I wished something happened between us, he has a girlfriend now and I can't do anything about it.
Not to mention how annoyingly stunning his girlfriend is. After stalking her social media numerous times I found out she was a model, a gorgeous one at best and had quite a large following. I didn't know what to expect— she's a perfect fit for Mason. Famous Footballer dating a Famous Super Model, it just fits. I was nothing compared to her. She deserved him..
A voice to my right cleared his throat which caused me to put my attention back on Chilly. I caught a flash of sympathy in his eyes before he quickly masked it with contentment and I fought the urge to roll my eyes.
I hate pity.
"Some of my mates and their missus are hanging out at my place tonight. Do you wanna come?" He asked to avoid any awkwardness. I hesitated at the offer, not seeming to be in the mood to be around people I may not know. But on the other hand, this could be a good distraction from everything...
