We stood outside the club. There was a huge line but, we got in faster than I thought we would. As we entered the club, the smell of smoke, sweat and too many people assaulted my nostrils. From the corner of my eye I saw Annel smile widely, "It's good to be home!" I smiled as we headed towards the bar stools to get a drink. I sat on the cold bar stool and glanced around at the people surrounding me. Drunken teenagers. Adults laughing. The smell of alcohol and vomit was clearly present. I kept feeling very uneasy, as if someone was staring at me. "Zero, are you feeling well?" I smiled and nodded. "Yeah, I'm fine. Want to go dance?" Annel giggled and grabbed my hand. Pushing ourselves through the bodies of drunken people, we made out way to the dance floor.

That uneasy feeling was back. And it wasn't even that kind of staring people do where they just look like they're staring but they're actually just lost in thought. It felt like someone's eyes were burning in the back on my neck. I could feel it and I felt as though I was going to pass out.

"Hey Annel?" My voiced cracked a little.

"Yeah?" She gave me a worried look but smiled.

"I'm having this weird feeling that someone is staring at me."

"Zero, were at a club. Of course people are going to stare!"

"No, I mean like... I don't know." Annel looked over at my shoulder and smirked. "You know what? I think you actually be be right!" Before I could respond, Annel spun me around. "He's over there, at the bar table. And girl, let me tell you something, he is very attractive." Adjusting my eyes towards the bar table I saw him. For a second everything seemed to stop and it felt as though we were the only two people here. My god was this man beautiful. He had slightly pale skin that blended great with his dark hair which was slicked back. A few of the white strands were loose but, it framed his perfectly oval shaped head. And don't get me started on his eyes, they were dark but, not a scary dark. I thought I could get lost in them. As our eyes met, I felt as though I had known this boy for ages. The sadness was shown in his eyes and my body ached for him. I wanted to hold this mysterious man and never let him go. Before I could even do anything, I was quickly bought back to reality when Annel spoke.

"You know, you should go talk to him." I have Annel an 'are you crazy' look. "Annel...did you drink a little too much? he can be a killer or rapist for all we know!" She rolled her eyes and pulled out some lipgloss. Applying it on her lips she fixed her hair. "Well I doubt it. If you won't go and talk to him, I will." Before I could tell her that she was acting stupid, she started walking away from me but, I quickly grabbed her arm and yanked her towards me again. "You're an idiot Annel. I'll go talk to him. If I die, I'm coming back as a ghost and haunting you for the rest of your life." She laughed and pointed at a few guys who waved at her. "I'll be over there so don't worry about anything. If he does something stupid, I'll be there in an instant." She smiled and gripped my shoulder, "Live a little Zero." I noddedn. Taking a deep breath, I sucked up enough courage to walk up to him. It felt like forever but, I finally reached up to him.

Tapping his shoulder, be turned around and I was lost for words. As my eyes connected with his again, all the pain and sadness hit me again. He quickly covered it up and chuckled, "Can I help you?" His voice was as sweet as honey and it made me feel safe. I quickly bought myself together. "Um...hey. I saw you staring at me...and it was making me really uncomfortable. If you don't mind, can you not stare at me?" He was checking me out. What!? His eyes were going up and down my body and for some reason I didn't mind. Usually if I guy was to check me out in a bar is kick him. But, with this one, I really don't care. After what seemed like ages, he smirked. "As much as you would enjoy that, I wasn't staring at you." I gave him a confused look. Cocky bastard. "I was staring at the mark that you have on your neck." At first I had no idea what he was talking about. But my eyes widened as I realized what he was talking about. I quickly placed my hand on the right. Side of my neck and tried to cover it up. I knew I was forgetting something! "This stupid thing?" I laughed nervously, "It's just a birthmark!" He tilted his head to the side and seemed to be lost in deep thought. What was he thinking about? he was mumbling something I couldn't understand. "What?"

"Why does it look so familiar? Like, I've seen this before but...where?" I smiled at him. "You're probably confused. Trust me, it's just a birthmark. You must be thinking about something else." He shrugged, "Maybe." After a few seconds of silence, he asked me if I wanted a drink.

We were having a conversation. Like an actual conversation. He was so funny. After each story he kept telling me about how he thought oranges would give him superpowers or how he thought that chickens were dinosaurs, he bought up the topic of my mark again. "Look I know I keep bringing this up but...that mark is so familiar. I know you may think that it's a birthmark but...I don't know." He pushed back his hair and smiled. "I know what I'm about to say may sound weird but, do you mind coming over my house so that we could talk more about this mark? I have a library and I have a few books about marks and what kind of power each mark holds." I gave him the same look I give Annel every time she says something stupid. What was he thinking? Yeah he's attractive and yeah we had at least a four hour conversation but, that doesn't mean I'll go to his house. I was about to say no. And how he was even stupid for thinking about this idea but, his eyes met mine and I couldn't stop myself. Annels words were playing in my ears about how this can be my only chance of freedom. About how I should take risks because who knows where they'll lead me. Maybe this man was supposed to be my savior? I can't believe I'm doing this! "Alright, I'll go." He was shocked. You could see it in his face. "Really." I smiled. "Yeah...but, no funny business! If you do anything, and I mean anything that will make me want to kick you in the balls, don't think for a second that I won't because I will. Got it?" He was laughing. Like a genuine laugh and it made me feel warm. "Alright trust me, I won't."

He grabbed my hand and we started to make our ways to the door. Oh crap! I'm such an idiot! Turning around I tried to look for Annel but, she wasn't there. I shrugged it off. "I'm Zero, by the way." He was silent for sometime. Strange. As we exited the club he didn't turn around or do anything but, the minute he told me his name I honestly thought I was dreaming. "I'm Kildare." Yeah, today has got to be one of the craziest days ever.
