"Mommy?" I turned and saw a little girl sitting in the dim light. She scared me a little. I walked closer and then she backed up against the wall.
"Don't hurt me!!" She yelled. She looked about 4 or 5. If she was 4 then she was mine if not then she is someone else's daughter.
I walked closer to her and got down to her level. She looked like she has been crying. In her right hand she was holding a necklace.
"I'm not here to hurt you. I promise. I want to get you out of here." I said to her.
"But what about mommy?" She asked me. Before I could say anything we both heard a loud gun shot and a big crashing sound. She ran into my arms.
"Are you going to save me?" I picked her up and nodded my head.
"What's your name cutie?" I asked trying to calm her down.
"My name is Amena. But mommy calls me Mena." I nodded my head. This was Mena. She was a pretty little girl and obvious very smart. Not sure if she's mine though. I couldn't study her features. But from the looks of it she looked like Nina.
"Mena is there an other way out of this house? But NOT goung through the kitchen." I put her back on the ground and she took my hand and some how led me out the basement and into the living room.
It was a mess up here. I still heard fighting in the kitchen so I wanted to get her out of here as quickly as I can. I picked her up and started to walk outside.
"Wait! I gotta say bye to mommy" she yelled. I covered her mouth.
"You'll see mommy again. I have to get you somewhere safe ok?" She started to cry. But honestly I didn't even know if Nina was alive or not. I don't want this little girl seeing her mother dead if she is. That would be a scary thought.
"I want my MOMMY." She cried louder.
"Mena. I can get you some ice cream if you stop crying. We can go back to my house and I will come back to see if mommy is still here. Is that ok?" I asked her. Her tears started to slow down.
"Ice cream?" She asked in between her sniffles.
"Yeah. Any kind. You like strawberry?" I asked her. She nodded her head and smiled.
"Ok. Let's go get some and then you can take a bath and a nap at my house and if you are good you can habe some play time." She gave me a slight smile before getting into the car.
The drive to Dairy Queen was ok. She kept looking down at her necklace. I looked through the rear view mirror and kinds studied her. Therr was no way Nina could deny her. She looked like a little Nina. Only Mena's hair was curly and Nina always kept her's straight.
"What kind of ice cream Mena?" She looked up from her necklace and look that all the ice cream choices.
"Strawberry shortcake." She said and then looked back down at her necklace. I ordered some ice cream for me, Danille and Niya as well. I know I been out for a long time and Danielle probably wants to kill me.
But I couldn't leave this little girl there. It was to dangerous. What if that guy came downstairs and shot her. I couldn't live with myself knowing that I didn't save her. Mena might be mad at me right now h ut when she grows up and I tell her this story she will understand. At least I hope.
"Whoa!! This a big house!" Her eyes popped open when she saw the house. It wasn't a big house to me. But coming from the little house she was in I could understand.
I'm used to NOT having neighbors. But here I habe neighbors on BOTH sides, behind me and in front. This was a people neighborhood.
"Ok. Mena stay behind me. Cause there is a crazy woman in her and she probably wants to hurt me."
