The news of Hisashi Midoriya's death broke Izuku. He saw the man as a father, and eight years ago, around the time he first became Spider-Man and run away from the Yagi home, Hisashi and his sister May had taken care of him. And the fact that he was gone...
After he'd puked and cried on the street, Izuku went catatonic. His face was emotionless, and he was unresponsive, barely acknowledging his surroundings. Izumi understood this, but it hurt to see her brother like this. She took him back to her place, as she knew that he couldn't go home, not yet, anyway.
Hours pass, and Izuku hasn't moved from the chair next to the window. He stares out at the world just moving along, as if nothing was wrong, and it hurt him, because he just lost one of the most important people in the world to him, and though it's a fact of life, that it just goes on, Izuku didn't think he could. He had to talk to Uraraka. He pulled out his phone, and began to call her number again. She declined the call, but he called again and again. He didn't need to confide in anyone, he just wanted to hear that she was okay.
Uraraka finally picks up, and relief washed over Izuku. He was antsy to speak to her, but before he can even get a word in, she starts yelling. Izuku's heart shatters further, something he didn't even think possible. He can't even pick up the words she's screaming at him, but he can tell she's emotional and furious.
He's frozen, and he can't do much else but hold the phone to his ear, and let her berate him. He noticed Izumi has heard her shouting and has come over, and she's looking at him with a sympathetic, pained look on her face. It's at this point he realizes that he's crying again. He wipes the tears away and forces a smile onto his face.
Ochaco has calmed down, and he finally can get a word in.
"Ocha," he says, his lips quivering, and he can hear her inhale in surprise at the pet name, and he soldiers on through his sadness. "You can't imagine how good it is to hear your voice."
Izumi audibly gasps, a reasonable reaction to the unexpected words Izuku said, and over the phone, Uraraka fell silent.
"C-Can I see you?" Izuku continues, struggling to hold himself together. "P-Please. I... I want to try to explain. Please..."
Her silence is deafening, and he can hear his heart pounding in his ears at decibels in the triple digits.
"Fine," Ocha finally says, her tone clipped.
"T-Thank you!" Izuku stammers out. "I-I'm on my way, Izumi's bringing me."
She ends the call, and Izuku feels weak, the exchange has sapped at his recovering strength. Izumi quickly steps over to steady her brother.
"Hey, you," he smiles, letting her support him.
"You surprise me, you know," Izumi said, smiling softly. "I don't know where you find the strength to keep smiling."
"Me neither," Izuku admitted.
"And what do you mean, 'Izumi's bringing me over?'" she asked, her smile growing.
"Well, with Spider-Man a wanted man, I can't exactly swing over (not that I'm in the state to), and you know I never got my license, because of the web-swinging," he explained, before chuckling. "Heh, ironic isn't it?"
"I know." Izumi took her brother's hand and squeezed. He looked up, and Izumi had a resolute look. "You'll get through this."
"T-Thank you-"
"But!" Izumi interrupted him, and looked into Izuku's eyes, and he felt like her gaze was piercing his soul. "I know you're really good at hiding your pain. Stop it. You know it's unhealthy."
