“It’ll happen either way, whether we like it, or not. Please understand I-“
"N-No! I-I'm never accepting this!" letting out a choke sob with tears threatening to spill, she continues, "There has to be a way y-yeah? M-maybe they haven't f-found everything yet, hey-hey, don't give up on us yet...please" gripping his pale, and skinny hands, she looks at him.
They know it was bound to happen. They had talked about this countless of times. But even then, her heart was not ready to let go.
As a tense silence covers the entire room, only a heart monitor with his wavering pulse breaking it, he held her hand. Remembering the times were everything was fine and they were happy.
Inching her trembling hand to his lips, giving it a peck, he lets out a raspy chuckle.
"Love, it's fine...I won't be leaving you permanently you know that. It's not ending yet, because I still have too much love to give."
Not caring of the tears that began streaming out of her eyes, only focusing on him and his warmth alone.
"...But you are leaving me. It won't be the same as before...Is there really no convincing you?"
"Pretty much. There's no need to worry though, I'll be waiting for you in the next one, okay?" He has to be strong, for the both of them. He was going to love her in that next life, even if she doesn't remember her love for him, he'll work hard to earn it back.
Even if she had a different appearance, he'd come back right into her arms.
Even if the two of them don't remember each other, he'd make her fall inlove with him again.
He'd try, and try, and try until the universe gets tired of separating them.
He'd get tired. But it would be worth it. ꜰᴏʀ ʜᴇʀ.
"You never fail to amaze me, Lucas. Be sure to be patient while waiting, I'll...I'll be there soon."
Feeling a shortness of breath, he smiles at her with a gaze full of affection. This was it. He can feel his heart slowed down into a stop any second now, and he isn't going to rest until he utters the words he so desires to say.
"I love you, Irene. And I'll continue loving you in multiple lifetimes. 𝙐𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙡 𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙧𝙨 𝙗𝙪𝙧𝙣 𝙤𝙪𝙩."
But it was too late for him to hear her respond. The machine that's supporting him till now, bellows a loud 'beep' as the line becomes flat, indicating that he is no longer in this world.
Irene, still holding Lucas' hand, leans in forward, closing her eyes in the process to give him a kiss on the forehead. As a sentence that she wish she had said earlier to the man she love, escapes her lips and into the wind.
"I love you, Mi Amor. And I'll be sure to continue loving you in different lifetimes...
