Chapter 4. By Your Side

“Good morning, Mr. Wen. Nice to meet you. My name is Lan Yi, your therapist.”

Ke Xing nodded to acknowledge his new therapist. He and Zi Shu then led into a room. The room was not too big but completed with therapy equipment.

“Alright, let me explain the therapy plan first.”

“Sure, Ms. Lan.” Zi Shu replied to her.

“Your schedule for now is twice a week. So, we will have eight sessions for this month. For the first four sessions, we will start with thermal ultrasound and continue with manual therapy. We will review your progress after four sessions before we can continue to more advance method. Do you have any question, Mr. Wen?”

Ke Xing looked at Lan Yi then to Zi Shu. He took a deep breath before asked about the things that had bothered his mind.

“Ms. Lan, I have…doubts.”

Lan Yi smiled warmly at him. As a patient, it was normal to have lots of doubts. Most of her patients had lots of doubts.

“Yes, Mr. Wen?”

“I’ve been paralyzed for so long. The medicines didn’t help me much. Do you think the therapy will help me get better?”

“Well, Mr. Wen, I understand your concern. Whether the therapy will completely heal you or not, to be honest, there is no 100% guarantee. But what we will do is to increase the joints movement, strengthen the muscle, improving your balance and coordination. It definitely will take time, but don’t be discourage because of this.”

Ke Xing sighed but then nodded. Silently, Zi Shu put his hands on Ke Xing’s shoulder and squeezed him lightly.

“Alright then.” He finally replied, “Let’s get started.”

“Alright. I will need you to lay down on the bed. We’ll start the thermal ultrasound. It will take fifteen minutes.”

Zi Shu then pushed the wheelchair and positioned it near the bed.

Locking the wheelchair, he looked up to Ke Xing, “Let me help you get on the bed.”

“It’s alright, I can do it by myself.”

“A-Xing, I know you can do it by yourself. But the bed height is a bit high, won’t you let me help you?”

Ke Xing looked into Zi Shu’s eyes and let out a soft sigh.

“Alright. You don’t have to carry me, just help me to make sure I sit correctly on the bed.”

“Wait, let me take off your shoes.”

Zi Shu knelt and helped Ke Xing to took of his shoes and socks. Once done, he stood up with a smile on his lips. Ke Xing then reached one of his hands to the bed while the other one pushed his body up. Zi Shu reached out to Ke Xing’s waist and helped him to positioned him to sit on the bed.

Ke Xing gasped in surprise because suddenly Zi Shu lifted both of his legs and gently positioned it on the bed.

“Since I’m here to accompany you, might as well make myself useful. Come, lay down.” Zi Shu softly explained to Ke Xing as he patted the pillow to make it fluffier.
