Marinette bit her thumbnail as she looked around the park. On either side of her sat Alya and Cain, each lost in their phones for their own reasons leaving her feeling as if she were alone in her nervousness. Chat Noir would come soon, he promised Rena Rogue and Ladybug that he would get in contact with Marinette to give her the key to the bakery, now a place that he thought would make a grand hideout for the heroes. He did message her phone, something she worried over for an hour as Alya tried to convince her there was no way Adrien would be jealous of the superhero texting her. She wasn't enthused to hear that, after all that would mean that he didn't care she was talking to the only other guy she had kissed.
Cain huffed beside her and leaned against the back of the bench as he pulled his phone closer to his face and scrunched his eyebrows. She glanced at his screen when he did this and tilted her head slightly when she read the word Tomato at the top of his message screen.
"It's nothing important." She let out an involuntary squeak at his words and turned her attention to his face as he slipped his phone into his coat pocket. "We got a pussy cat." With a raised brow she followed his eyes to see Chat approaching them from across the park. It was an odd feeling, knowing she would get her home back at the same park that she finally admitted she was losing it.
"You ready girl?" Alya asked as she leaned forward. Marinette took in a deep breath through her nose before giving a firm nod. It was now or never. She stood, dusting herself off before adjusting the strap on her purse, and made her way over to Chat.
The black cat hero had stopped by the fountain at the center of the park. He looked like he was fidgeting with his bell as he studied the water falling in thin streams along the marble structure. He wasn't looking her way as she approached but she knew he saw her figure reflected in the pool when she stopped a few feet to his left. His eyes closed slowly before opening once again as his head turned her way and she gave him a small nervous smile in greeting.
"I'm assuming you talked to Ladybug?" His tone was playful as he leaned towards her.
"Yeah, um, she told me you were looking to give me something to help you three out?" She tilted her head slightly to glance at Cain and Alya, who were back on their phones and looking as inconspicuous as possible. Their attempts were broken by them taking turns looking Marinette's way as they pretended to pay attention to the devices in their hands.
"It's a bit full here." Chat turned his attention to the crowds of people around them as he spoke. Marinette was ready to respond, even went so far as to open her lips in order to answer him, but only succeeded in letting out another shocked squeak as he swept her into his arms and extended his staff, sending them up into the air and over the shocked onlookers.
Alya stood from her seat as soon as she witnessed them shooting into the air, only to be stopped by Cains hand on her arm. She turned to him, ready to tell him off for stopping her, only to stop when she took in the small smirk playing on his lips.
"Let 'em go." He told her, "Would you want someone interrupting your time with Nino?" She pulled her eyebrows together over her eyes as she thought carefully on what he said, but gave in soon after and allowed her body to fall back against the bench.
...............................
Marinette felt her stomach sinking as Chat allowed his staff to retract while they were in the air. She never realized just how much he had to free fall while he traveled across the city. Hands down she preferred her swinging by yo-yo than feeling as if she could drop a hundred feet down at any given moment. Relief washed over her as they touched down on the balcony of her old home. It felt very plain, without her fairy lights or flower pots to make it unique to her. She took a step towards her old skylight as he leaned back against the railing surrounding the balcony. Her lip quivered to the point she had to bite down on it to stop its movement. Marinette thought she was ready, truly she thought she could handle being back, after all she knew he would give her a key to the place before they even met up at the park. But the pain in her chest told her another story.
