Jaeden's POV:
(Months earlier)
Ever since I moved in in August, I can't help but notice my neighbor. I always see her sitting on her roof across from my window. At first, I thought nothing of it but one day I was studying her from my window. The sun set was enough light for me to see the tears streaming down her face. I need to know more about her, I thought, running down the stairs to my mom's office.
"Mom, have you introduced yourself to our neighbors yet?"
"Yes, I spoke to the mom while you were at school today, why?"
"What are they like?" I said, trying to find out more about the girl across from my window without being too obvious.
"Well, she has a daughter in your grade, and she goes to your school." She said with a hint of annoyance.
"What else?"
"Jaeden I'm really trying to get my work done can you please go upstairs or something?" She glared at me from behind her computer.
My mom was never one for conversations anyway, so I took myself back up to my room, where I found an empty roof.
As we got further into the school year, I had noticed the girl in the hallways. I figured out her name, (y/n). She was very quiet, always keeping her eyes down like she would catch on fire if she made eye contact with anyone, but she has a special glow about her. I was always very confused why she didn't have any friends; I can tell she's has something special about her. That is until I caught Laila and her friends surrounding (y/n). By the time I made my way over to see what was going on, Laila was leaving and (y/n) had already run away. That night she was on the roof.
I had finally put two and two together and realized that the roof is her escape. As weeks pass, I look out my window worrying about her. I don't even know her, but I feel so bad. I have no idea what happened between Laila and (y/n), but whatever is it, I'm sure Laila is going too far.
Recently (y/n) has been going out every night, even on weekends. One day I sat out on my roof waiting for her hoping I can talk to her, but as soon as she came out, I heard my front door opening. If my dad figured out I was still up, I'd be dead, so I hurried back inside. Damn, she probably thinks I'm a dick.
One cold Saturday night I tried again. She had already been out there for an hour, so I quickly wrote a note down and balled it up. She was staring at the stars and hadn't noticed me come out, so I threw the note across the way. I didn't think about the weather, so I went back inside to grab a jacket, but when I came back out, she was gone, and her light had been shut off. How is she gonna completely ignore a question like that? Reluctantly I went back inside.
