(y/n) POV
(The next Monday)
The alarm scares me awake and I know it's time for school. I quickly get dressed, run a brush through my hair and put a little make up on.
"(y/n) hurry up you're gonna make me late!"
I grab my bag and run downstairs and grab a banana. As I make my way to the car where my mom is already waiting I happen to glance over and see the neighbor getting ready to walk to school.
As I close the door my mom rolls down the window,
"Hey honey! Do you want a ride to school?"
"Oh, uhm..." he looks in my direction, "sure, thanks"
My mom rolls up with window and he walks towards the car.
"Mom what are you doing?"
"what's wrong hun?"
The tall boy opens the door to the back of the car and climbs in, setting his bag down on the seat next to him.
"Hey (y/n)." she says with a smile.
I roll my eyes and turn around, crossing my arms. I don't need another person at school to make fun of me. I knew for a fact he threw that note and ran away just to spite me; everyone is always after me.
We get to school, and I say bye to my mom and quickly get away before he can follow me. There's still ten minutes until I need to be in class, so I stand at my locker keeping lookout for Laila. I notice the same boy slam his locker shut and walk away with his head down. I hope I wasn't too harsh on the ride here... A pang of guilt hits me in the chest but I brush it off and make my way to class.
(time skip)
The end of the day comes and for the first time in a long time it was a decent day, that was until I get to my locker. I look up to see written in sharpie: "LOSER". I open up my locker, grab my stuff and get out of there as fast as possible.
I'm halfway home, walking pretty fast wanting to be as far away from school as possible when I hear my name.
"(Y/N), wait!"
I turn around to see my neighbor running to catch up with me.
"Do you need something?" I said turning around as soon as he catches up with me.
"I just wanted to say, I uh- I'm sorry about Laila. I don't know what her problem is."
"y-you know about that?"
"of course, I've been watching you for a couple weeks now- that sounds kinda creepy. But I always see you on your roof at night. At first, I was looking because I think you're really pretty- I mean..." I turn to look up at him and see his cheeks turning red.
"...uhm, but anyway I saw that you looked sad, and I wanted to make sure you're ok." He continued looking down at me.
I looked down at the sidewalk to see our footsteps in sync and a smile crept onto my face. Wait, someone actually noticed me, in a good way???
"yeah, I'm ok, but I just wanna know why you have been avoiding me. Like what the hell was that last night?"
"Oh ha, that... Well I meant to stay out longer but I went inside to grab a jacket and when I came back you were gone." He said with an awkward laugh
"Ohhhhhh, I thought you were taunting me or something. Good to know" I said, starting to laugh. "Well next time just text me, don't throw things at my face haha. Give me your number."
We finally reached our houses and traded phones to type our numbers in. He handed my phone and I looked at the name he put in, "Jaeden <3"
We both said bye and went our separate ways. Jaeden... why does that name sound familiar?
I walk into my house and go straight upstairs to my room when I hear my phone buzz.
Jaeden <3
J: I know you lied.
(y/n): about what, exactly?
J: I know you're not ok
(y/n): you don't know me.
I put my phone down and laid my head down on my pillow. I just can't let anyone in like that anymore. Not after what Laila did.
