Nivea didn't know when she had clambered to her feet, but she now stood in the sprawling swamp. Ashes coated everything as far as the eye could see. Four bodies beneath her hand stained the ground in their blood. Mud slid down her calf and her blood lacking weakened her knees.
Head falling back, she finally allowed herself darkness as her eye slid shut. She stood for just a moment like that to let it all sink into her bones. And as the words spoken from the sky repeated themselves through her thoughts like a damned broken record, a smile coated in both the blood from many others and her own tainted something... pure. Relief sagged her shoulders.
Her choppy hair (she did enjoy good puns every now and then) tickled her ears, a draft of air from an incoming hovercraft chilling her bare neck speckled in mud and blood alike with the rising of goosebumps along every limb, and yet her tight fists dug in still to the wounds in and on her palms. They remained as though those she had condemned to haunt those bloodied grounds would return to repay the favor with moments to spare.
She had fulfilled her mission. Against all odds and that one last moment of an ending much too close to the real thing, she had.
Nivea had earned her place in this world; she alone had won.
Yet it felt almost as if someone shared in this feeling with her. As if they too felt the victory she felt. Like it were so hauntingly mutual.
But of course that was a lie. It was only meant to trip up her steady tread.
It had to be.

I'm so giddy guys you just don't understand... After almost a full year I finally finished Stage 1!
