After six days On Sunday,
At evening,
Sarah was cooking dinner for children today, today is her last day of her vacation. This whole week with children was really refreshing and full of happiness. Going on a trip with all of them, telling and listening to different stories at night before going to bad, teaching them something they are confused about, everything was really amazing. She felt lively spending her vacations with them and Gautam uncle. She is cooking chicken masala, chapatis, rice and fish curry.
Today Tirtha and Sharad planned to take her somewhere she doesn't know that place and because Sarah has promised her to go with them so she has to comply, she is really not comfortable about their surprise of the fun place. After her vacation with children, they decided to take her to a fun place.
After cooking all the things and giving the staff some instructions, she went to the gate carrying her bag on her right shoulder, today she is wearing a denim jeans and a pink t-shirt with 3/4 sleeve, she combed her hair in high ponytail. After adjusting her clothes she went out to the gate, there all the children and Gautam uncle were waiting for her with a sad look on their faces.
She doesn't want to go but she has to earn as much as she can for providing everything to them. She knew she needed to earn money to support them, especially since they only had individual funding sources for the orphanage, with no corporate sponsorships aside from the Vernam Group. Sarah had made a conscious decision not to treat the orphanage like a business; it was a family, and she wanted to ensure each child felt loved. They only took in a few children to maintain that personalized care, and she routinely video-called them on workdays.
"Bye, kids. Promise me you will behave and be good while I'm gone, okay?" she said, squatting down to their level, smiling brightly.
"We promise we will behave ourselves," they chimed back, running toward her for a tight embrace.
"My kids, I will come back once my work is finished. I need you all to take care of yourselves, study hard, and look after Gautam uncle, okay?" She kissed each of their heads, warmth filling her heart.
"Hm, we will! But di, you have to take care of yourself too," they insisted.
"I will, for you I will. Now remember to smile when I leave; otherwise, I will cry too," she replied while embracing them once more, patting their heads.
"Bye, di," the children waved, their faces bright with smiles.
"Goodbye, and take care of yourselves. Now go inside; I prepared dinner for you all. I need to say goodbye to Gautam uncle as well," she instructed, gently ushering them inside the building.
Gautam uncle observed their interaction, concern in his eyes as he approached. "You shouldn't overwork yourself, beta. Take care of your health."
"I will, and please look after yourself too. I have only you and these children to live for," Sarah replied, the affection for her guardian evident in her tone.
"Beta Sarah, you know this isn't true. You should also find someone you love and start your own family. Otherwise, I won't be able to face your parents after death," Gautam said, his voice tinged with sorrow.
"Please, uncle, don't say that. They are gone; I don't want to lose anyone else. You know my situation. No one could ever love me after knowing my truth. After that night, I don't deserve anyone's love," Sarah responded, bitterness creeping into her words.
"It wasn't your fault, Sarah. And how will someone know if we don't tell them?"
"I can't start a relationship built on dishonesty, and I don't want to relive that moment by telling anyone. I've given up on the idea. Anyway, there's no need to worry about me. I'm fine. Now I really have to go; Tirtha will kill me if I'm late," she said, giving him a side hug, her smile somewhat masking her inner turmoil.
