Chapter Eleven

"So they had the same prizes at both high schools?" Yuto asked.

"Yes," Natsumi sighed, leaning back into the couch. "Do you want my voucher when I get it, Brother? I have no need for a VR gaming console."

"You can have my meet and greet," Yuto responded. "You liked Phantoms when it was on, right?"

"I-I can't do that! That's for your homeroom class, Brother! Can't I have your tea voucher instead?"

"No," Yuto said bluntly.

"Why?!" Natsumi demanded.

"Because I want the Millennium Series tea."

Natsumi sighed heavily and rubbed at her eyes. "So at Yukinaga your homeroom won first place, the Fashion Club won second place, and the Chemistry Club won third place."

"Pretty much," Yuto laughed. He choked out a brief laugh. "Suzuhara-sensei got angry though when he found out teachers didn't qualify for prizes. I don't know why he thought he should get the Light Years though, I heard people saying he didn't even supervise the Chemistry Club today..."

Well, he's a Suzuhara, Natsumi thought, but she felt guilty about thinking that. "And at Shirahime the Dance Club got first place, homeroom 3-4 got second place, and the Fashion Club got third place."

"What did homeroom 3-4 do?"

"They did a live cosplay show from an anime. Their whole class—all 30 girls—dressed up as characters from the series and put on two shows both yesterday and today."

"That's interesting. What anime did they do?"

"Unfortunately I was so busy that I wasn't able to see either show. I-I think it was a mahou shojo anime from a few years ago—"

"Sparkle Maidens?" Yuto interjected lightly.

"NO!" Natsumi hollered, throwing a couch pillow at his head. He casually ducked out of the way. "Brother, that is so gross! Why would you say that?!"

"It sounded funny in the moment."

Sparkle Maidens was a 7-episode OVA anime series, but it was not really from the mahou shojo genre but had been in fact a hentai OVA series. Natsumi had wished she had never heard of the existence of such an anime but she had learned of it like the rest of the country due to the national attention it had received eight years prior. Natsumi recalled hearing about how a high school student in Handa had gone on a stabbing spree at his high school and had been caught on cell phone video reciting a monologue from a villain from Sparkle Maidens verbatim during his rampage. Thankfully no one had died during his assault but the incident had shined a negative spotlight on the already controversial hentai genre, and it had ruined the reputations of the series creator and some of the seiyuu (or voice actors) for the anime, particularly the voice actor who had played the villain who had given the monologue.

The fact that Yuto referenced Sparkle Maidens in that moment grossed Natsumi out but also made her feel sad. "It wasn't Sparkle Maidens," she said sharply.

Yuto got up from the couch to pick up the pillow off the floor. "You were at Yukinaga today, right? Sorry I couldn't see you."

"T-That's okay," Natsumi said. "I saw your fashion show at least."
